From my experience, that's not true. Further, it'd automatically mean someone scoring musicals would have to be familiar with every instrument down to detailed playing techniques. Which would be quite impossible.

I’ve had to play plenty of scores written by someone who obviously had no idea how the instrument is played. They didn’t do any better trying to do it in standard notation than they would have done in TAB

Standard notation is the currency of the realm. It is simultaneously universally applicable for western instruments while being insufficient for capturing the nuances of any western instrument. Guitar is not unique in that notation often misses the musical idiosyncrasies of guitar.
