PRS SE NF53

The pickguard though...

Back in May I wanted to pick up a PRS SE DGT for my birthday, so bought one from Amazon. It arrived and it was ok, tones and playability OK but not particularly inspiring, kinda stiff, I put 9 1/2 - 44 set on it, did a quick setup, and it was still stiff. so back it went. Didn't float my boat, no connection or chemistry.

Whilst browsing on Amazon I had spotted some SE NF3 in metallic orange, was intrigued, and bought one. Straight out of the box, stock strings and setup, it was still in tune. and I LOVED it!! I put the 9 1/2 set on there and it plays like BUTTAH! The satin neck is another thing I loved about it, and whammy works well, stays in tune fairly well even when I become a little aggressive with it. And I love the pickups, frankly I was expecting some crappy sounding pups but boy was I surprised - they sound great! I'm a big P-90 fan and these have definite P-90 tonality, with pretty good midrange, but still have some high end glass a la single coils. IMHO very well balanced.

Played it at a gig on my birthday, one of the band friends who is also a guitarist came up and told me he loved the tones. I had played an Aerodyne Strat with three DiMarzio dual rail SC sized HBs at the previous gig and he said the tone was noticeably better, he found the Aerodyne tones were a bit thin, but the NF3 was ballsy. I couldn't agree more. I'm not a big Strat guy, prefer P-90s and HBs, but been playing it a lot, so much so that my bandmates are kidding me and keep asking "are you playing your birthday guitar AGAIN??!!". Heh. Youbetchurass I am!:pickle My son bought me some SE locking tuners for it for my birthday, so I'll put those on when I change strings.

If I have a chance I'll post a pic. Really really like the metallic orange, it stands out on stage!

EDIT: didn't take a pic but looks just like this:

Awesome!! Congrats! Got any pics?

I don’t understand why this gets compared to Teles and called a Tele?? :wat

What part of this guitar has anything to do with a Tele?

And that comparison isn’t going to help the guitar at all because instead of being judged by how good it is, it will be judged by how good it is at being like a Tele. Why not let it stand as its own thing without having to compare it to a totally different guitar?

Really? You don’t know why? 🤣

Looks like a tele. Made of ash, like a lot of tele. Has a plate style bridge, granted not exactly like a tele. 25.5” scale; like a tele.

I would have had no idea that thing was supposed to be a Tele if someone hadn’t said so.

Here’s the thing: I think it looks good, and I think it sounds good. But I don’t think it looks or sounds anything like a Tele.

So does that make it a good guitar or a failure?
