PRS Mark Tremonti MT15 V2

I hate to be a debbie downer, (I actually use the clean channel of a V1 right now), but while lower gain is what I wished the OG had, this revision, IMO essentially does NOTHING because:

1. You can't footswitch to this new option (unless I'm wrong?)
2. The channel has the same voicing, (which does NOT sound like classic crunch), so it just sounds like you turned the gain knob down, which you could do with V1

i dont really know what id do with a 15w amp. wouldnt work at shows. i dont play tube amps at home.

im sure theres a market and they will sell a bunch but its a no for me.

I disagree, it was not possiblleto get that kind of Marshally tone he gets around 2:09, and the V1 didn't clean up nicely with the guitar volume at all like he shows in the video. At 3:21 he's back on the hi-gain voicing and the difference is stark.
And at 4:31 he shows the range of the overdrive, getting super nice crunchy cleans, 100% impossible on the V1's lead channel.

I stand corrected, thank you sir. I think I was watching the actual PRS vid earlier, which does NOT sound as good as the one in this thread ;)

It actually rates much closer to 30w. These things are loud AF. Plenty of volume to play a high volume show with.

That said, I don't really get the update on this. Doesn't sound like there's more gain on the clean channel, so no more versatility there and PRS is calling the push/pull on the lead channel a "gain reduction" control, with no voicing change. If that's the case, and you can't footswitch it... what's the point, when you can just turn the gain down?? FWIW, my MT15 was super quiet, so I've always been confused with the reports on that.

The new Archon Classic, however... looks kinda awesome.

Using the "overdrive" on the lead channels removes two gain stages, and as per the video you can hear it changes the voicing quite a bit. You definitely can't get there by just turning the gain pot down.

I wonder if they have fixed the master volume? Those were really touchy from what I remember.

I think the overdrive mode is very sensible because the original had basically a clean channel and a high gain channel and didn't do anything in between very well, and the lead channel started at pretty high gain.

Price seems to have gone up a ton though. Thomann says 999 € incl our hideously high Finnish VAT. Original goes for 499 €. Honestly I think that's too high for the V2, a big part of their popularity was the cost.

EDIT: Maybe that's a placeholder price? The Archon Classic 50 is 1111 € so why would anyone buy the MT15 V2 if a bit more gets you the 50?

+1

I currently play a v1, using the clean channel and my HX Stomp XL or Helix for dirt boxes, and I never have this thing up to halfway, and it has plenty left in the tank. Admittedly, my drummer plays with finesse and isn't a basher, but, still.

It’s listed for $949 at Sweetwater. The Archon Classic is $1149. That price difference is a head scratcher (but great price on the Archon!).

I asked Zach in a comment on his video about the master volume and he did say it was more manageable at lower volume.

I’m not really needing that mid gain sound, so I may still track down a v1 model.

tis gonna be an interesting year for me, for sure. I was all set on getting a SYN20IR and a module or two, in a few months, but, with the this amp and the Archon coming out, for less, AND I'll probably be able to play them in a store . . .

Definitely worth a look/listen.
