Greetings New here — hope everyone’s doing good. I know this thread’s kinda old, but I figured I’d throw in my 2 cents since I’m looking to grab Nunchuck second-hand.
Biggest downside for me so far: you can’t re-order the effects. Same deal as Neural DSP and a bunch of others. And yeah, no way to stick anything between the preamp and power amp either. Most devs dropped that option ages ago ’cause they were worried about cutting into amp sales, so everything’s just baked together. Even the mighty Axe-Fx III (sounds insane, millions of presets making kids happy all over the world) doesn’t let you split ’em.
Thing is — if you actually wanna sit a tone in a mix or chase something really specific (think EVH-level tone chasing), you kinda need that flexibility. Otherwise it’s just presets and vibes. That’s why I keep saying tone chasing with sims is kinda a myth unless you’ve got Axiom, Revalver, or TH-U. Axiom’s the real MVP here since they finally let you load 3rd-party VSTs right inside it.
That being said — Nunchuck still sounds killer. Super solid capture. If it had the routing freedom I just mentioned, I’d be in heaven mixing Howard Benson’s Marshall, Wizard, Bogner hot rods, Bogren Digital Bad Boy by Euge Valovirta, and their one-knob Plexi — all in one sim with swap-able preamps and effects order.
I guess you could still just capture those amps and load ’em yourself…using blue cats Audio Axiom but its $200+ so yeah, not exactly cheap fun.
