PLUGIN SALES THREAD

Relayer is indeed really cool. I probably wouldn't use it for delays at all but more of a resonator. You're right—it's absolutely killer on drum loops.

IMO one of the great things is that you can start as simple as you want. Single delay, hp/lp, feedback and mix to taste, done - and then just go from there in various directions.
Fwiw, what I'd really like to see would be two additional options per tap: pitch and reverse. Just imagine how wild you could go. I might write them some suggestions - after around 10 years (fwiw, goes to show that old digital doesn't necessarily have to become obsolete) this thing could see an update.

And btw, did you already see that this works as a MIDI controlled effect, too? Allows for quite some wicked things. Unfortunately, any modulations only work full scale, so there's nothing like a modulation matrix, allowing you to modify parameters by different percentages when moving, say, your ModWheel. That's another thing I might suggest to UVI. Still a nice thing to fool around with.

And well, I think it's now time for you to tell the Helix development team to come up with anything comparable within the new Stadium series. I know, it possibly can't be done 1:1, but there's certainly some ideas to "steal" (most obviously the option to define delay patterns yourself and modify individual taps). Would take the FX section of the HX devices to quite a new level IMO.
(And then do the same with reverbs, modulations and filters... - one can dream, right?)

Would you guys generally consider Plugin Boutique a good place to buy plugins?

Sure. It's absolutely safe and they're very established. Possibly worth to check the other contenders every now and then, too. There's actually quite some more, but here's some of the bigger ones (all serious shops):

Defenitely worth checking them every once in a while as they all have special offers all the time (similar to the Relayer give-away).

If you really want to go crazy, you need to check KVR (if you haven't already) for deals and such.
They have what possibly is the best searchable database (including all freebies) there is.

And if you want to look at the 2nd hand market, you might want to check Knobcloud. They're taking care of your 2nd hand deals running smoothly. Sometimes you can find some great deals there - usually just a tad more expensive compared to buying privately, but in return all transactions are guaranteed to run well.

Thanks a lot. Until now I mostly bought stuff directly and haven't been into plugins too much. Aside from Helix Native I mostly stayed with the DAWs included plugins or used hardware. The UAD Producer Edition is pretty tempting.

The UAD stuff certainly is very good. Still, before spending cash, I'd really look for freebies. There's some most excellent ones around for pretty much all things, be it all sorts of EQs and compressors, modulation FX, delays, reverbs and what not. And let's not even talk about synths, there's countless ones, some absolute gems among them, too. You can as well find great sample libraries for free. The good thing with many freebies being that they often don't require any registration (unless they're a kinda promotional thing from bigger developers), so you just download and install.
Besides KVR, bedroomproducersblog is a very decent site to check for all kinda free stuff.

Apart from that, I absolutely recommend sticking with what your DAW (which one, btw?) has on offer as much as possible, rather often these things are well optimized and most of them suit professional demands as well.

Just be

Just be aware that the next version 15 will probably be released in November.
Still a great deal to get into Cubase and you can of course upgrade later or even wait to upgrade until the next sale.
Seems upgrades are about 80-100 euros from past Cubase versions. What are the odds that Cubase 15 upgrade will be around that price too?

Also any thoughts on which version to pick? The Cubase website seems to state that the major difference between the Artist vs Pro version is the Control Room and Modulators features, and the amount of other crap. 150 € price difference between Artist and Pro.

Control Room seems like a genuinely useful feature, not sure if I'd find a use for Modulators.

Get the Pro version. It has more effects (and the Cubase stock effects are actually really, really good), Control Room (I didn‘t think I‘d use it, but now I couldn‘t live without it) and Modulators (very useful for Wah or other effects!). And there are numerous little things that I would really miss if they suddenly weren't there anymore (e.g. Listen Mode in the mixer).

I'm on Cubase 14 Pro. Started years ago with the Artist version and was on Studio One for a while (which I really liked) but went back to Cubase because the Studio where I do most of my work is on Cubase. Artist is pretty good these days, especially since it got VariAudio but I still don't understand, why it doesn't have the (full) Chord Assistant.

For plugins, I was already into UAD years ago, had an Apollo Twin but didn't like that I was hardware dependent. Now that they have native stuff I'm interested again. The producer edition on offer just seems like a good value. The plugins are basic stuff that's just nice to have, especially if you know the hardware. The software instruments seem decent too and I don't need to haul my Nord home all the time to record some keys. And some stuff is just redundant with Helix Native installed.

I'll check the links @Sascha Franck mentioed, too. Cubase is pretty complete already, so the UAD stuff is just the icing on the cake. I just needed someone saying, it's a good deal (or wait for a better).

Thanks for the tip about KnobCloud. Ended up picking Cubase 14 Pro there for less than what Cubase's own sales were.

Oh cool.

Fwiw, many companies have some special sales pretty regularly (usually once a year), Steinberg included. Snagged their Absolute 6 collection for €150 last year. Also got IK's Studio Max for 150 (which includes Amplitube Max and Tonex Max, plus some other pretty nice things). Two years before I updated an incredibly old version of Native Instruments' Komplete (version 5) to Komplete Ultimate 12 for 250, etc.

Yeah I feel like all online companies are running sales more often, regardless of what they do. Clothes, plugins, music stores etc. Summer sales and Black Friday or Christmas sales are probably the most common.

PS. ML Sound Lab has their drum stuff 50% off atm. https://ml-sound-lab.com/pages/ml-drums

Re: Drums
I can only recommend getting the free version of IK's Modo Drums. They're pretty good and amazingly flexible for a free set.
Another nice contender would be the free Deviant Drums from Chaostones. They require you to have a Native Instruments account, so you can use the (free) Kontakt Player.

And while we're at Native Instruments, I can only recommend grabbing their free Komplete Start bundle, which has quite some amazing stuff in it, they even included their "Raum" reverb now, which I find to be quite great (fwiw, all that coming from someone having multiples axes to grind with NI).
