THE AMP SIM PLUGIN THREAD

Bit of an older topic ..... but its always amazed me how little respect / kudos / praise etc... the Nembrini stuff seems to get in various forums.

With a good quality, well setup interface, their stuff feels and plays as well as anything out there - I personally prefer it to the NDSP stuff I have demo'ed and like it way more than Helix Native or the Scuffham plugin.

The HK Puretone - to me - is the best sounding and feeling Amp Sim - hardware or software - I've ever used for classic rock to tough rock tone - and I know less than zero about the "real" Amp .... not even sure if it ever did or does even exist or if it was some sort of one-off thing :)

If just baffles me ?

do you guys remember this guitar plugin Acmebargig Head Case?

Yep. Still have it in my backup files. I remember only using it a few times and being kind of confused/having trouble with it. Don't think I fully understood it. Amps as jpegs or however it worked.

Even older: Simul Analog Guitar Suite, which even still exists:
UI-less, using the generic controls of your host.
Some people suspected that the guy was hired by NI to program the first versions of Guitar Rig. No idea whether that is true.
Given the release date (around 2k, maybe even earlier?), they didn't sound all that bad (there's sound examples on the page).

same.

New Softube Hi again amp models - some kind of 5150 (it says 50W and II, and also mentions blending channels into the same gain knob). So no idea what that’s about or why I’d use it. Also seems to be a Dover model.

and for some reason they’ve written this parody backstory which is mildly amusing but I wish they’d put as much effort into their own plugins and documentation.

They also released a kind of slimmed down contained for their amp sims which looks way more up my street than the full fat one (which is pretty slow and clunky to use). Also looks like you can buy some of the individual amps and pedals from older suites now too

Thanks for the heads-up. Looks pretty cool & I wanted to try it but in addition to the iLok thing (which is OK since I use it for NDSP plugins) why on flat-planet-Earth do I need to install another piece of $w (softube central) to get an amp sim plugin. I hate this sort of thing - IK & others do it as well & it's incredibly annoying.

Sometimes I feel like I’m in the minority on this stuff but of all the copy protection out there, iLok is the one that annoys me least. If you’re ever setting up a new computer, it’s so easy to just install your software and plug your ilok in (or log in) and that’s the majority of your plugins up and running.

The ones that use their own proprietary copy protection mean you have to jump through different hoops for each company, usually trawling old emails for codes or auth/key files which gets tiring very quickly.

The same is kind of true for the software installation - I have a lot of Softube stuff and their app makes it really quick and easy to install their stuff that’s authorised to me (and keep it up to date). I can be up and running very quickly compared to having to run hundreds of individual installers. The app just handles it all.

FWIW Softube also allows you to install things the old fashioned way too: https://www.softube.com/support/plug-in-installers

I don't mind iLok - I think it's ok but having to have iLok + another app (that's not the plugin) is something that bugs me a lot. Just end up with a lot of bloatware.

New plugin comes out, open the installer, not there. Hit update on the installer, it updates and refreshes… not there. Goto website to download the installer, asks you to login. Download the installer, delete the old installer. Installer is now installed, need to login again.

After 50 hoops you can now install the ampsim 🤣

I try to keep it in the same family, so I have the IK and NI installers, so I will just stick with everything they make, lol.
