Official original Marshall JVM appreciation thread

I was young and inexperienced, I liked pointy guitars with Floyd Rose bridges... hmmm, pretty much the same as now, just not young...
The 410 was finally the Marshall I had in my head and the only one that didn’t need to be insanely loud to sound right. Still the best value amp you can buy, particularly in the UK . £600 sh is common.

So JVM owners, how do you set up your amp? What mode/settings do you use for each channel and what sort of tone are you using them for?

Fractal OD-1 Orange vs Real Amp & X-Load. I just matched the knob settings and chose the appropriate impedance curve/speaker settings in the amp block and turned the amp block NFB down a touch. Stupid good.

This is the real 410H vs Fractal "BRIT JVM OD1 ORANGE" model, right?

Were there any changes between 2007 and now on the JVM410? Any issues or years to avoid (like the bias drift issues on the JCM2000)?

There’s a 2007 near me. Wondering other than tube age if there’s any risk.

Awesome riffage.

I don’t even bother boosting mine half the time, and when I do it’s generally just with an EQ doing a mild low cut. Depends on guitar and how it’s dialed, but I’ve found it doesn’t generally need more mids (808) and I find the SD1 sometimes cuts out too much bottom end and I have to compensate with depth.

Which is another great thing about it, you can go straight in and its largely already there. 🤘

JVM is such a good amp. @santiall did a sensational job on it!

I have the Satriani JVM.

I typically use clean green or orange, gain around noon, channel volume around noon, bass at noon, mids around 10 o'clock, and treble around 2 o'clock.

Crunch is usually Crunch Red: Gain around 2-3 o'clock, channel volume around 11 o'clock, bass at 11 o'clock, mids around noon, and treble around 2 o'clock.

OD1 and OD2 I usually use orange on one of them, and red on the other. Gains are usually around 11-12 o'clock. Bass 11 o'clock, mids around 2 o'clock, treble around 2-3 o'clock.

Main resonance and presence knobs I usually have around 1-2 o'clock.

there were two changes back in 2007-08, the heater fuses were removed (with wire jumpers while the pcb stock lasted, then with a new pcb) and the pots were updated with nuts on the front panel.
It pretty much remained like that for years but at some point the Svetlana =C= EL34s were not available anymore and the amp was tested with other EL34 brands. Some of them had oscillation issues so they reinforced a couple of tracks on the pcb with a wire to prevent those ultrasonic oscillations. It was rather marginal though and it was never an issue till using JJs or EH, I am not sure what brand was trickier to use.
other than that I am not aware of anything although I haven't been in the company for some years...

So are 2007-2008 not recommended? Problematic?
