NMVD !!

Well the wife was sick all yesterday with something that looked like food poisoning. It came on after my mate and I left to go and get amps, coz we got out of bed at 5am for the drive.

I was fine all day as we drove across the UK to get it, but around 9pm I vomm'd quite badly and nowwww it is 3am and feel like I'm getting a temperature, stomach cramps, etc.

We went to a wedding on Saturday. Might've eaten some dodgy food, not really sure.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-

How does it compare to your Diezels?
None of the Diezels are this tight right off the bat, even the Hagen. The VH4 is quite vintage sounding to me, but mine is a 2001 model. The modern ones sound different according to internet wisdom. The D-Moll at the moment is probably my favourite of the Diezels. They all need boosts however.

If you tits the channel bass control on Mark IV mode, then you start to enter Diezel territory. But even then, the transient is still very percussive and not smushy like the Diezels can be.

Congrats on the Boogie!

You just gave birth to a new amp. Rest up and go easy for a couple of days. :beer

Sooooo....

One thing I was wondering about.... on channel 2, you've got the Mark I mode, which sounds pretty cool, but a bit dark compared to the other modes on that channel. I guess I need to figure out how to dial it in, without compromising the GEQ settings for the Mark IV mode on channel 3, which is absolutely gorgeous and killer.

Surprising to me actually how high you can go with the bass knobs on the channels. I was expecting to have to run them fully off, but up to noon is still full of great tones. Even 1 o'clock can sound cool if you subdue the GEQ low frequencies a bit.

A very interactive and cool amp.

Don’t overlook the “preset” option in the graphic EQ, you can do quite a bit that way for channel two without sacrificing your settings for channel three. And welcome to the club, I bought my Mark V in 2009, the serial number is in the mid 300s. I’ll never sell it.

How does that feature work? I have read the manual and it says it's basically the graphic EQ V curve and the depth knob dials I guess how much of a V it is? How does it sound in practice? I've never seen it demoed properly anywhere.

Out of curiosity I read the Mark V manual and that thing has just some features that are like "why did you even bother?" Like do you need a freakin' tuner out and a mute switch for it on the Solo knob? 4 jacks for "alternate control switching" because you can't figure out how to support MIDI for footswitching? That Normal/Thick switch on ch2 that only applies if you have it set to Mark 1? Fx loop assign to just one channel, all of them or the sensible option: footswitch toggle. In an already super complex amp you'd think the sensible thing would've been to leave out all these kinda useless features.

Yes, the preset knob basically increases the ‘V’ as you turn it clockwise. As far as the 1/4” switching jacks, keep in mind that there weren’t many MIDI switchers when the amp was introduced, and the ones that did exist mostly used a bunch of 1/4” jacks to accomplish everything. I have the Mesa MIDI switcher, which accommodates the seven pin DIN cable that the regular foot switch uses.

Makes sense. What doesn't make sense is the 7-pin DIN tho.

I had a Bogner that used that setup, I had to build a cable and use a RJM Mini Amp Gizmo to use MIDI, which felt so stupid when it could have been using just 5-pin MIDI all along. You know, that standard from the 1980s?

7 pin DIN predates midi completely.

On other amps that have similar features, I use them. They are not useless just because Lord Laxu says so.

I swear I saw a little box online recently that plugged into a DIN and turned it into a midi but now I can't find it and I only have hazy memory if thats even what it was
