Well, the volume knob is scratchy now - I gave it a good workout to try and get rid of it but returned after a day. I'll try some de-oxit next string change but thinking of just replacing it with a CTS pot. And if I'm going to that trouble maybe I should just replace both pots and the switch.
I ended up deciding not to replace any pots just yet — a shot of DeoxIT in the volume pot cleared up the scratchiness and it's been clean ever since.
In other news,
I snapped two high-E strings in a row, both breaking at the saddle. On close inspection, I found some burring on the contact point, so I smoothed it out with 800-grit sandpaper. Third string is holding strong so far with the same bends that broke the first two.
The tremolo bar had some play in it. Tightening the adjustment screw enough to eliminate the play made it feel stiff and grindy, but loosening it brought the play right back. I smoothed out the collet sleeve with 800-grit sandpaper and applied some white lithium grease — now I can tighten the adjustment screw to my preferred resistance and it feels smooth with zero play.
