NGD - Les Paul Standard 50s Tobacco Burst

No, didn't have the chance to experiment with pickups yet, that's a very deep rabbit hole I try to avoid.

I spent so much money messing about with pafs years ago it was embarrassing tbh. I worked my way through different brands, magnet type, overwound, underwound and ending up just getting confused.

These days I stick to one pickup maker based in the UK for everything. I just tell him what guitar I've got, what I'd like to use it for and buy what he recommends. If the necks too dark or the bridge isn't working he fixes it for me and sends it back. It saves me a load of time and hassle now.

The Seymour Duncans are in my Edwards LP.
Ah, gotchya. I thought you were swapping PU's.

So, you actually have two variables in play, when comparing those tones. Sooo, honest question..., what's the point? If you're hearing differences, couldn't it be due to the PU's, and/or the way the guitars are made?

Got to say, the nitro finish is getting dirty really fast.
I can see it absorbed some body oils into the finish where I rest my right arm when I play, and it's very hard to clean it out compared to my other guitars.
Reading on the internet about various methods and chemicals, some people don't even bother and just let the gunk sink into the nitro and age with the guitar.
I will not be polishing my guitar for 30 minutes after playing to keep the nitro shiny, not happening, so I might just let it age ungracefully.

Just let the guitar live it's life.

My oldest R8 is starting to show cracks and I love it.

You should only have to replace the bridge pickup. The neck pickup should be fine, similar to a 59 or Jazz.

If you want to keep the guitar close to original, the Gibson 498T has about the same output and tone as a JB but it's better IMHO, more open sounding. The 500T has more output than the JB, it's closer to the Duncan Distortion and it's a great sounding pickup, very thick and chuggy.

Awesome guitar! A LP Standard is the bomb 💣! I got a Standard '50s also and mine's in Heritage Cherry Sunburst. Looking at yours I wished I woulda got Tobacco Sunburst now. I love the '50s neck and pickups too. You're right though, if you want to do metal with it you're going to need a pedal or amp with a significant amount of gain or something. However it does other styles so wonderfully and LP Standards play so smoothly and effortlessly. Congrats and enjoy.

PAFs are fine its just that the burstbucker bridge sucks for anything at all imo (BB Pro at least, haven't played a BB1 or BB2)

Kyle Bull has just released a video claiming that low output PAFs are the best thing ever for Metal. Ripping the Burstbuckers out of your beautiful new LP was a huge mistake!
Kyle is getting paid to say things, I have my own opinion and ears.
PAF in the bridge sounds thin and screachy with higher gain imo, it's not what I want to hear from a humbucker.
Also, the BB coils are unbalanced so they don't fully cancel the hum and buzz in the room compared to my other humbucker guitars.

I'm playing this guitar every day and I just can't get used to how thin, trebly and noisy the bridge BB sounds compared to the JB.

Ive got low output 59 Tributes (A2) that came in my LP.
Sound fantastic rolled back clean, almost jazz like. Can be jazz like actually.

I actually want to move into an A5 hb so I can get a little more push.
I dont need clean-clean. Clean-ish is just fine if I can get a little more push, compression...
