New Vox Handwired series

I don’t know if you guys remember Mute Math, but Greg Hill was a perfect example of running everything in front of an AC30.

He used a DynaComp and/or Micro Amp and a couple of Ibanez DE7s in front of a cranked AC30 for this album:

I’ve played a couple AC15 that I had a tough time pulling myself away from. Not sure whether they were c1 or cc1 but they sounded great.

I used to work in a room that had a pair of 64 AC30s that were absolute monster amps. Why does it seem like Vox struggles to put out solid reissues of these? It's a significant part of their legacy. Maybe that's what the handwired stuff is for? A couple years ago I'd read rumors of JMI reissues that never seemed to materialize.

Yeah, Vox has never done the “vintage reissue” thing for whatever reason. They always go with keeping the aesthetic and vibe of the vintage amps, but with modern features for convenience/reliability/functionality.

The handwired stuff I believe is closer to the vintage amps, but they’ve fixed some of the problems in the old amps and added some nice QOL updates.

I know I’ve heard a lot of horror stories about the infamous reliability issues of those old ‘60s Vox amps!

I had an AC30H2 for a bit that was great but just too much amp and no master on it. If it had a master volume it might have stuck around. I’ve also played a 64 AC30 non top boost 6 hole amp. Normal channel, brilliant channel (brighter) and vib/trem. That amp was god tier Vox tones. It sold me my SG Standard P90 as I played that guitar through it and wound up buying that guitar. A friend was working at the GC when it came in so he put me in the soundproof room with it and let me crank the bejeezus out of it. Original alnico silver speakers too.

These days I got my Vox vibes from my Bad Cat Black Cat 30, but I will admit the Friedman VX30 shown off that had the normal channel with normal, brilliant and bass voicings interests me a lot just because of that 64 I played.
