We just need a "SNARL" switch on the BE-100 to dial in those harsh upper mids.
And to think that his 5150 became one of the most used amps in metal music.
Nope. Totally agree. His amps are more compressed and a bit too modern in some his modes in the lower mids. If I want go modern modded Marshall style I think there better sounding options IMHO.
Post EQ slight bumps at ~2K,3-4K.We just need a "SNARL" switch on the BE-100 to dial in those harsh upper mids.
Supposedly he’s coming out with a “vintage line” that’s more like the classics. Thing is I want that classic tone but some modern functionality. I’ll have to say the Small Box of his did sound better to me than the BE but there was still this thing about I didn’t like. I’m sure people are like what are even doing wasting your time with the IRX? Cause I’m super GASsy and you never know.In my experience, Bogner did very similar things with their amps (modded Marshall circuits that took much
of the "Marshall" out of them).... and then went the more vintage leaning route with amps like the Helios later
on.
I wonder if Dave will do something similar.
Suhr also makes some great vintage-leaning Marshall sytle amps.
Shawn Tubbs getting some ridiculous tones out of this thing:
Not identical but in the loop it is gonna give you some of that bite back. EQs in the loop are super powerful/fun tools.Hmmmm.... ? I wonder how that would provide the same result,
as the Marshall vibe is in the tone stack, and not in post.
How’s the hiss when you put the meat on it?Big time difference running through my monitors. Chugged on ch2 for a bit. Less gain and a little more thin than my first impressions with headphones. Some really good snappy hard rock tones. Kind of plug and play for those tones, and the EQ really doesn’t need much shaping. At volume when I try to push the gain, the sweet spot seems around 2:30 and after that it sort of wants to get farty. That lands right it on the edge modern high gain imo. I need to experiment with the Thump and Presence controls (which should be on the pedal imo) but I’ll try to fool with that tomorrow. (As well as all of the other cabs from the editor, I really like first two of three that come preloaded)
Only gripe I have is the gain control for the boost is kinda silly. It’s honestly a pain in the ass to adjust. I don’t think I’ll be using the onboard boost too often, but Alex Honnold would have a hard time getting a finger grip on the ledge of that thing, much less adjust it.

Or a hittin’ a wah at fairly high cruncher’s?
Btw, I like how you think.
-Let’s think!, LTFOL man!!

I prefer a Klon style boost out front with both channels. I set the clean channel so it's compressing and starting to break up a bit. Then the Klon hits it with a little more dirty and gain for a nice overdrive. On the dirty channel, it's already a little bit scooped, so the mids of the Klon pedal and the bass cut tightens it up and makes it a little more modern. But an 808 would work well too.
