Used $529 DSL looking good to scratch that Marshall itch after all this "back and forth"
I REALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLY need to get the Boogie cab out there and play something.Demands schmemands.
(Anyway, that MkII was a combo LOL.)
Hell, for $529 a DSL on a 4x12 looks cool just sitting in the corner. The rest is icing. :)Used $529 DSL looking good to scratch that Marshall itch after all this "back and forth"
If I grabbed a DSL; I'd need a 4x12 to sit it on because they are seemingly 72 inches wideHell, for $529 a DSL on 4x12 looks cool just sitting in the corner. The rest is icing. :)
Mine's been on ice for a couple of months - it's easier to use my little BAM200 for power right now. Jesus and Solarflares wept...
Yeah, they're enormous. When I went through that parade of HRs last year, I grazed the corner of a wall carrying one to the studio. I was sure I'd dinged the amp and would have no choice but to keep it. The amp was completely unscathed... but the wall broke. If I grabbed a DSL; I'd need a 4x12 to sit it on because they are seemingly 72 inches wide![]()
You know how I feel about DSLs. They're hard to beat at their price point, especially used.Used $529 DSL looking good to scratch that Marshall itch after all this "back and forth"

And especially now that all the formerly $2.5K alternatives are ~$4K.You know how I feel about DSLs. They're hard to beat at their price point, especially used.
You should have tried to sell him that MT-2!!Fun MT2 fact: the day I first discovered this pedal, I was working at Guitar Center in San Francisco. We'd just opened up, about 10am, store's empty... and I'm standing on the floor messing with the mid-sweep control thinking, "This pedal is from the goddamned future!" And I turn around and Joe Satriani is wandering around about three feet away from me.
My boss explained that his band was on tour and someone had nicked their entire truck, full of gear. So he was in our store to gear up for the next couple of shows. I was encouraged to go and say hi, but I was massively intimidated and I bitched out.

My sales pitch wouldn't have been so eloquent... since I was literally speechless. You should have tried to sell him that MT-2!!
"Joe, hear me out. We know you like aliens. What if I told you that now there's a pedal that can be heard from the outer space?"
Bam!! Sale!!
The Marshall modified amps never made any sense for pricing. I'd rather buy a non-modded one and spend maybe what, 100-200 euros to mod it to do the same thing. The whole thread could devolve into a circle jerk about not spending more than $1000 on an amp though.
Honestly the boutique stuff is all priced pretty similarly from what I can tell. The 50 Watters are all in the $2500-3000 range and the 100 Watters are in the $3500-4000 range. "Just get a Marshall" well the 1959 modified head is the same damn price at $3850.
The one cool thing with Friedman is I have contacted support and then Dave just personally e-mailed me back to answer my questions. When I contacted Suhr support they were really helpful too and sent me wiring diagrams.
I had to google him !! I am familiar with Jefferson Starship, but not at the level where I'd know the members names. My sales pitch wouldn't have been so eloquent... since I was literally speechless.
A couple of weeks later my manager pointed to a somewhat older gentleman with blond hair who was eyeballing a 1963 3-pickup SG reissue, and said, "Go say hi to Paul Kantner." (Though in all honesty, I had no idea who Paul Kantner was at the time.)
Marshall goes a little beyond the "crossing the pond" factor when it comes to their US prices. Some of their prices here are just flat out crazy. It's unfortunate, because I love their amps, but $3k for a stock 2203x is more than just import fees, it's downright abusive. The Marshall modified amps never made any sense for pricing. Then you have the "crossing the pond" price increases which fuck you over depending on what you are looking for. Marshall and Victory are expensive in the US, Friedman, Mesa, Suhr and Bogner in Europe.
A lot of these amps are starting to be tough sells when on this side of the pond you can pick up a used Marshall JVM410 or Vintage Modern for like 700-800 €.
I like to pretend Jefferson Starship never happened, but I love Jefferson Airplane. (Likewise, I wouldn't have been able to name any members aside from Grace Slick - and even that's just because she's got "one of those names".)I had to google him !! Hey it works both ways! A Mesa Mark VII head costs 4444 € / $5147 including VAT. Even if you ignore VAT, it's still like about 600 € / $694 more expensive than the US retail price.Marshall goes a little beyond the "crossing the pond" factor when it comes to their US prices. I totally get that. But Marshall is a bit different with some amps. They just overcharge for them here. Example, I bought a 100w Jubilee last year. $1899, which I thought it was ok for a 100w UK-made head. Now, how come the 2203x costs a whole $1000 more than the Jubilee here? It just makes NO sense to me.Hey it works both ways! A Mesa Mark VII head costs 4444 € / $5147 including VAT.
