New Fortin Killer Kali module is... well, KILLER!

That’s why I sold mine and went all Fractal for a time. Then a friend brought over a Mesa Mk IIC+ for me to check out and I ended up making an offer on it a week later. Back up to three amps with a fourth on order and thinking I need to go back to rehab.
Yeah it's easy to get roped back into amps. Fractal is great but imo amps are still #1.....maybe not #1 for price to functionality ratio buttttt 😂

I would love a few more Mesa-inspired models. The IICP is great, but a more modern segmented lead/clean setup without the shared channel knobs would be wonderful.
That would be using two IICP modules.

They could probably offer a "Mark V/VII" module that could cover some of the different modes of that amp. Maybe they could do the 2nd channel of the VII with Clean Fat / Crunch / Mark VII modes.

Imo synergy doesn't really offer much that the fractal can't. It really depends on the power amp which can be said for both the fractal and synergy.
At the same time, you do get the "real tube experience" and real knobs to work with, no menus in sight. I kinda want a Synergy just for that, but I'm very unsure if it's in any way worth the money vs just buying some nice used tube head to mess with.

That would be cool for sure.

Sounds crushing dude!
Thanks man!

Yeah I prefer using the Synergy stuff to modeling honestly for those very reasons. Some modules are good, but a few are fucking fantastic. Definitely worth digging into.

Honestly I never touch channel 2 of my VII. VII mode is the most "meh" mode on the amp IMO. IIB could have been on Channel 2 instead as it's the best crunch channel on the amp.

That would be cool for sure.

@JerEvil If you were going clean to 80s rock to DropD AIC and modern metal
What would be your 5 that you would want in the rig ?

The Syn 30 looks dope in 6l6 would be dope if they made a 15 watt 6v6 version with spring reverb.

So my top 5 to cover a lot of ground are the following:

• Bman
• Engl Powerball
• Fryette Deliverance
• Bogner Uber
• Fortin Killer Kali

The Uber and PowerBall are really killer and different flavors of high gain. The Bman does clean and crunch really well and the Kali is the best hot Marshall to date in the platform.

Maybe sub the Uber for the Recto or 6505 but that’s up to you.

I sold my Synergy rig a while back, but it was right before the 6505 was released, so I haven't gotten to play it or the Drect yet. Been curious about the new Dr Z module, and this one as well. I've thought about going back a few times but I would go with one of their heads instead of the rack setup this time.

I was using the preamp with my Fryette PS-1 and I didn't find the tone variance between the modules to be as large as I expected with it and it just didn't sound as good as the modules did through my 101b's power section. Buddy of mine had the SYN-50 and it crushed my setup. I was going to get the 30 since I didn't really need more than one module at a time and not needing a dedicated clean module is super appealing, plus I love the small size. The new 20 has tons of cool features, but the EL84 power section is not appealing to me whatsoever.

Yeah I generally cant get on with 84’s. The head did sound pretty tight though.

The SYN30 is the most anemic tone I've got from a tube power section in the last 4 years. It was a big disappointment for me.

I wonder if there was something wrong with it? I would imagine Friedman or Fryette is able to design a pretty solid poweramp. Can't find any PCB pics but pics from the back it looks like pretty appropriately sized transformers etc for a ~30W amp.

Yeah, the iron seemed alright. It was definitely in good shape - newly acquired from Thomann. Initiated the return the same day I got the thing. Just no ... awful piece of hardware.

Dang, that's disappointing. Sounds similar to what I was getting out of my PS-1
Weird about the PS-1 too. I have tried the PS-2 and PS-100 with a bunch of modelers and tube amps and both worked just great.

But on those the tube amp, or modelers will handle any poweramp behavior, so maybe the PS-1 was too flat for your tastes? The presence/depth controls can be quite subtle until you crank them.

Yeah, I'm not sure what was up with it. I love the PS-1 with my amps but it was anemic with the Synergy setup. It seems to sound fine with my HX Stomp, though.

Could it be e.g input levels? I found that if I ran my audio interface into the line-in vs fx loop return, I would have very different volume levels, basically much more from the fx return.

That's what I was thinking at first too, but no matter how I set it up, it didn't seem to fix the problem.
