NDSP Quad Cortex

Yeah QC is really a cool device. The modeling is close to if not on par with Fractal and tonally sounds similar. But it's way easier to use. Really the downsides are the effects being limited compared to other units and concern about support and development.

The entire cloud system is a nightmare, especially for third party capture vendors, but the reliance on the cloud could be a huge problem for consumers as well if it goes down.

I think it's a double edged sword...for storing and uploading your own IR's and captures it's awesome, same with looking for and downloading stuff from other users. But yeah the lack of marketplace really hurts the product and if it went down then the QC functionality drops SIGNIFICANTLY.

I would MUCH rather have local backup and loading of captures, IR's and presets with the cloud option as an add-on. The reliance on the cloud plus my experience getting burned when other clouds went away was by far the biggest thing that kept me from buying a QC during pre-order or year one. Then the clown show surpassed it, but the clown show also reinforces the risks of the cloud.

I would bet that the QC cloud is down or limited functionality by 2035, with a good chance it doesn't make it that long. No way I am investing in that ecosystem right now.

It's a matter of "when", not "if": every device which relies on cloud services (or external software) for functionality is doomed to become a paperweight in the future.

The Nano Cortex is great, but what happens when the app is no longer supported?

Depends on how companies want to sunset their services. "Here's the source code, and the last fw update for the product adds a user-defined cloud address. Host it yourself if you want" would be ideal. Unfortunately that rarely happens.

For iOS users, it's pretty bad as the entire app might just disappear. For Android users it's no big deal because the .apk file is usually floating somewhere.

Asked-
How heavily do we think ndsp are telling their mods to shut things down? It’s honestly hard to comprehend how an unpaid moderator in their spare time is so bang up for defending and protecting the company.

And answered-
Also the mod who shut down the thread in the NDSP Forum is the guy who reported a ton of us at the other place and lied about his affiliation with NDSP (being a mod)

I’m surprised that thread lasted as long as it did. I don’t for a second believe NDSP has to tell any of their mods what to delete/shut down because that behavior is, as stated already, exactly how this place was formed, before the dude was even a mod for NDSP. What’s lame is he brought up rules as if anything was being broken, twice in that thread, while no rules were being broken.

This isn’t moderation, this is an emotional response and veers into gaslighting because the quoted text IS on topic. On the surface you could say “eons” is subjective, but I believe in the tech world most would agree that 5 years is indeed eons.

To a degree, on Discord, I can understand it because of the format of Discord and how it’s like a rolling conversation and just today I was speaking to the other mods here about how we could better keep threads on track with the reality that there are some (myself included) that have some gripes that can detract from the flow of a thread, or just kill enthusiasm for those who don’t share those gripes. But the point of our discussion wasn’t to eliminate the gripes entirely, but creating a place for them to be heard where it’s not screwing with other’s enjoyment of the forum in general.

I fart in Unity’s general direction.

Actually, my guess is that very few people at the company have anything to do with it. Maybe they did originally, but eventually you get so burnt out doing a 10-12 hour work day, and then tacking on 3 hours of forum support on the end of it as you sit in bed crying into a beer bottle.

(I'm frankly fucking amazed that @Digital Igloo finds the time, or enjoys it enough to want to do it!)

But yeah, eventually something has to give. I wouldn't be surprised at all if these wannabe Reddit admins have complete free reign through sheer lack of interest from the company directly.

Eric is an absolute beast. I don’t know how that dude can spread himself out like that and keep his interaction so consistent. I can’t even manage that at my own job, never mind here. And the dude does so much more than the social media side of things, which these newer interviews with him are showing.

Is that Waterbound?

2035?? LOL we'll be "laying strips of venison on the empty car pool lane of some abandoned superhighway" by 2035. (Thank you, IMDb.)

I think it's hilarious the way we manage to envision these grim fates for our current gen gear, when most of us flip our rigs every 3 months because they're not shiny enough anyway. :D

Ask him when the Tone-X Turd Cloud will be down.
:rollsafe :knit

I don't use or need to use the Tonex cloud. I can load captures and IR's and make backups locally. IK can go away tomorrow and Tonex will still work as is indefinitely. QC, not so much.
YOU SEE CHOCLEIGHT; I KNEW YOU ARE A TONE-X USER AND THEREFORE GAVE MBENIGNI THE PROPER CONVERSATIONAL AMMUNITION TO CONTINUING THE CONVERSATION ON PROFILING TECHNOLOGIES AND YOUR OWN PERSONAL PREFERENCES OF VENDORS OF SAID PROFILING/CAPTURE TECH

That's 10 years from today, and I think it could happen much sooner or even much before "SOON". Even if you flip gear, the prospect of it becoming a doorstop will significantly impact its used value and your ability to sell. These things often happen pretty quickly and with little warning from the perspective of the consumer.

This popped in my head in the recent Stadium threads where people were talking about buying it on release/if it’s going to be worth it…..as if there’s not a good sized pool of people here who don’t cycle through everything at least once and have no problem flipping….and sometimes coming back for more….and more….and more…

Again, as doomsday scenarios go, this is pretty light fare. "I spent $1500 and all I got was the best-sounding, easiest to use piece of kit I'd ever owned for ~10 years. And also, this lousy t-shirt. And after that I had to carry on using it without fiddling around with an iPhone app. There was even this one time I lost a preset and had to dial in an amp again because the cloud was gone..."

Worrying about whether the Stadium, of all things, is properly next-gen or just a stop-gap is kinda nuts. :rofl

I get that flipping gear is a) a pain in the ass and b) an opportunity to lose a few bucks. But this notion that a platform that doesn't last forever is some kind of fraud or failure? Come on, man - it's the tech sector. Nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky...
