NDSP Quad Cortex

This play anywhere series they've got going is the dumbest fuckin PR - you can literally do that with any modeler device, it's not like the nano is battery powered. It grinds my GEARS lol pLaY aNyWhErE

To be fair, i think it's the only device which can be powered via USB-C in its size/price category.

Looks like NDSP is starting to charge for repairs. Nothing wrong with that as every other company does and in my experience NDSP has replaced my previous unit free of charge. Have also seen others say the same.

However I think this is worth noting if you are considering used. Don't expect it to be covered like it has previously

As long as those are out of warranty repairs, sure.

PS, does the QC warranty transfer on used sales? When I sold mine I had to be very clear about this, because even through NDSP was honoring warranties for resold devices, their FAQ specifically stated otherwise.

It does not. But yes to clarify the person stating this was out of warranty.

As you said, NDSP was covering used units (which warranty did not transfer) but that would not appear to be the case anymore

Looks like I sold out of mine at the perfect time.

It's been about six months I think since there was any new stuff added? Woof.

For any digital modeler (and especially the QC) - buy it for what it is, not for what you want it to be. Line6 hasn't had a Helix update since November - admittedly a much older device with a track record for excellent updates and modernization, but still.

Yes that is a good idea. But the precedent for flagship multi effects is significant development after release to expand functionality. Helix today is a world away from where it was at launch. Line 6 doesn't need to keep up that rapid pace of development because they have brought so much already. Quad Cortex has always lagged behind the competition in terms of the amps and effects they offer and don't look to be closing that gap at all.

I still really like the Quad Cortex especially as a hardware unit. It's IMO best in class hardware design for functionality and ease of use, has outstanding processing power, and generally sounds great. It's maybe not the most rugged device but I don't see mass reports of issues. It's also still the only unit I can think of which loads multiple captures.

But ultimately I sold mine because it just didn't offer what the competition does in terms of effects, and I was concerned about the long-term support for the product (both software development and hardware). They seem hyper focused on bringing plugins to the QC platform at the expense of any other development and weren't able to maintain any kind of regular release schedule.

I actually think their slate of amp models is competitive, for the most part.

Admittedly, there's no Dumble or Orange, but most every other amp family is well accounted for. Multiple Fenders, 5150/5153 and Mesa Boogie amps are there, and unlike Line 6 - they mostly model this stuff with all switches/modes/options from the jump. Helix, by comparison, still has just one channel/mode of Dual Rectifier after all this time. The Helix Mark IV models all of the channels but is missing all of the switches.

The QC effects are most definitely a problem, but it's super clear that past assurances of "We'll keep expanding content forever" or "If you think we intend to put future development behind a paywall, nothing could be further from the truth" were.....let's be charitable and say they were inaccurate.

But combining profiling with their modeling proved to be a stroke of genius because they'll always have "new content" - it's just that it's user-generated.

I'm super happy with my QC/VP4 setup. The QC's amp tones are fantastic IMO and I can find absolutely any tone I could want. There are amps I wished were in the Fractalverse but weren't. I've found good captures of all of them.

I kinda wish they'd do more/faster with PCOM but I'm not sure why I care so much at this point. Like I want them to do Cali but in the meantime I could just make a few captures. Or download them...I'm sure they're on the cloud...actually never mind I just grabbed 4 presets and 6 captures in less than 2 minutes.

Yeah the effects, while pretty good imo, are lacking compared to Fractal. They're good enough that I didn't need the VP4 but it is certainly value added. Now I feel super satisfied with my digital rig.

I came from the Stomp to the QC and while I did notice that there are less reverb and delays in this unit - I'm not completely convinced that they are "worse" than what I could find in the Stomp, just more limited and less flashy. Modulation effects are top notch in the QC imo, amps are excellent, drives are better than I thought the HX had. The QC needs some better reverbs and delays though, of course, and it does suck that it seems we're getting those from plugins instead of native QC updates.

The chorus engine and 2w (or whatever it's called) are great!

Between the touchscreen and rotary knobs, I don’t really open the app up to make changes and that’s something that never happened with any other modeler I’ve had
Yeah I hear a lot of people talking shit about touch screens and "poo switches" (which is actually pretty funny), but I feel like they make the QC incredibly easy to use. I don't even have the editor installed on my computer. I keep forgetting it even exists tbh.
