NAD CrabAmps Dragon

What are your thoughts on the Dragon now that you have had it a few days?

I’m getting killer lead tones from the SLO channel and the Mark III channel, and the Diezel covers a lot of ground. Liking the Twin more than expected. A different clean than my JP2C, but just as nice with a different flavor. Seems to have a nice glassy chime to it.

I need to spend some time dialing in the Mark to see how the tone stack interacts. At this point I found a nice lead tone with BMT set on 10 and presence low. I think I have all of the shift switches pushed in as well.

I’m interested in hearing your thoughts on settings for that channel, and any other thoughts you have on this thing.
Work got so busy for me so I have not spent much time with it. A lot of your opinions match mine. I am more of a rhythm player so I am having more fun with the VH4 but I agree with everything you said on the other channels including needing more time on the Mark because of the lack of the GEQ. I am so used to the GEQ on my JP2c and Mark V making 90% of the sound.

For the money only the Synergy modules come close in value but the base synergy gear needed to use them quickly makes the Crab amazing.

I am 99% sure for my low volume home use it will not be a worry about reliability but not sure for others that might use it a ton more and drag it around places because I don’t know anything about these transformers it uses. It’s about the same size as my Mark V but it weighs a lot less.

Right now, I am contemplating a giant sell off because I just have too much crap and I spend more time collecting crap and looking at the next thing thinking this one might make me play more. It’s driving me nuts. I am not sure it will make the cut. I really wanna get down to three or four heads and maybe 6-10 guitars. Several of the guitars I have to keep for sentimental reasons but are not my players.

I get that. This one makes 4 tube amps in my studio, and I have a couple of small practice amps in my house where I give lessons. I’d like to trim down the number of guitars I have, but the ones I want to sell probably won’t bring in much.

I had a Synergy setup and enjoyed it for the most part, but went all digital with Axe-FX and sold it off. Their Mk IIC+ module was nice, but the graphic EQ is so tiny that it was really hard to hit the sweet spot and I found it super touchy.

Back on the Dragon, I dug back into the VH4 channel yesterday and it also has some nice lead tones as well as rhythm crunch. Pretty sure I’ll hang on to this as an alternate to my Mesas and EVH. I’m planning on using a lot of different textures in the next batch of recordings we are starting.
