[NAD] BadCat Lynx 50W (EL34)

It's probably the most aggressive amp I've ever tried; even more aggressive than the Ceriatone Chupacabra 50W.
You’re out here selling me on this even harder 🤣. I’ve seen some periodic RRP price drops in Australia by $500 which got me REAL close to buying one new. I’ll get one at some point for sure, they just look and sound cool.

I have heard from a few techs concerns about longevity but I figure it’s not going to be thrown in a car much or left extensively on for hours… paired with a reasonable sales warranty should be ok, but the concern is there.

There's nothing in the build or how the thing behaves to lead me to suspect it might crap out easily. If anything, it's built just as well as my Badlander.

I've been eyeing a B-Stock or used one on the market for quite some time; saw just a few used ones pop up from launch to current day but they were all close to MSRP so meah..

I liked most demos except Henning's where it sounded bloated / too fuzzy. Now that I have had some time with the amp, I can definitely say it's peculiar - it can get very shrill / aggressive or overly fat / bloated. The controls have a lot of range in them but the amp leans heavily on the aggressive side.

I didn’t catch Henning's, will check it out.

Sounds like you are enjoying it.

Quite so but I like the first channel a lot more than the channel 2 (which is crazy A.F.). It's not as compressed & still gets gainy enough (at least for my tastes) - I'm probably getting old hahaha

Would have been cool if they had a dual-channel / clone thing like Mesa does so you can assign each channel's gain type; that would get you a clean channel using Ch1 and a drive/gain channel stil in the Ch1 mode but with more gain. The way it is right now, I'm stuck with either a good clean & a hairier gain or a hairier gain & good drive channel.

A gut shot?

Really is a great amp and kinda misunderstood by many. Gotta keep the gain low.

Sounds like you got a great deal also.

swapped a cab for one these this weekend. Pretty damn cool amp, loving how much bass it has. Not the tightest but I’d rather be in control of the tightness myself rather than having an amp that’s pre-neutered.

Great deal! Congrats on the amp!
I too prefer to have a lil' bit of fat on top to sculpt than it be already sculpted out for me.
Ch1-Hi is awesome.
