You mean janky EHX footswitches? The worst...I just rediscovered this pedal while I was looking for alternatives to the EHX Attack Decay (which is cool but janky in typical EHX fashion), that aren't 7 million dollars for no reason. (Boss Slow Gear has entered the chat.)
The Layers pedal looks really interesting, and the price isn't nuts, but it doesn't do the simple thing I initially hoped it would do: apply Attack and Decay to the actual notes you're playing, a la EHX Attack Decay. As far as I can tell, these controls are only used to shape "layers" after the fact. Bummer, as a slightly more compact Attack Delay with added freeze and layering features (and if I understand correctly, reverb and delay of some kind as well?) would have been awesome. Definitely a fair trade vs. the onboard fuzz on the Attack Decay.

That's part of it. But the footswitches on the Attack Decay reissue are actually pretty decent. I'm more talking about their tendency to pack 10lbs of shit into a 5lb bag and then put zero effort into designing a UI that isn't outright user-hostile. Or their tendency to connect useful parameters to potentiometers whose values have been chosen with a random number generator, so that finding the sweet spot is almost impossible - or in some cases nowhere on the potentiometer at all. That kind of thing. I still keep buying their stuff because it's cool - in some cases unique, even - but yeesh.
