MXR Layers Pedal

Dunno. But between this and the Joshua, it looks like MXR’s starting to venture into Strymon territory.
There are some very clever minds steering the ship over there. Sweet design decisions and nice features. The past few years they have been killing it, just my opinion.

Secondary market on that new Rhoades distortion+ is dumb though .

In before the “MXR Layers” Fractal Forum Wish List thread.

And before the “you can already do this in the Axe-FX” replies.

Yeah I think if you’re into that ambient pad thing you’ll def want to give it go.

I think I like this too because I saw the Andy demo of it after watching Origin “We’re out of ideas” Effects release another $300 bluesbreaker.
Yeah, I’m glad someone is putting out different stuff for a change. We don’t need another Tube Screamer variant. I don’t even care if it’s “touch sensitive” or whatever. Make new stuff!

I read like 10 paragraphs and I still don't know what it is
“Hey guys, MXR here. We slapped a Spin chip in a pedal, and then smacked our head against the keyboard whilst programming the algos. We’re not even going to pretend to know how we arrived at this ambient goodness, but it doesn’t matter, because you hungry bastards will buy anything that has ‘ambient’ in the description.”

The manual explains it all fairly clearly....but to each their own.

I really dig the dynamic attack/trigger action.....takes the expression and puts it in your hands.....I love that, my boss tera echo is like that.

To be honest, I have no need for it now, but it does the thing I spent 400 us to get, with 2 pedals....and it seems to do more too....sub octave ....not quite sure, but very cool for what it is. JMO

Ok quite a bit going on, from this sweetwater description.

What'd she get a Thesaurus for her birthday? :wat

If you can't filter out marketing speak at this point... 🤷🏻‍♂️

I can screen shot the manual I suppose, but I don't really care that much ....just thought it was neat, for the price, and size, and all the complex function in a small package. There are so many deep controls on this thing.

I do understand....that was the best description on the fly.

I don't have a good vocabulary. I went to the Slash School For Public Speaking. I learned how to use the word 'fuck' as a noun, verb, adjective, adverb, and even a preposition. :rofl

I worked in a heavy diesel machine shop right after high school, and there were guys there that could cuss for five minutes straight without repeating themselves. I was a mere mortal amongst the Gods.

Has the Swedes approval for sure. Ambient post-rock shoegaze whatever is the shelf im in and won’t get out of.

MXR did good imho. There will be complains about presets and whatever, but those who typically use this kind of thing often doesn’t mind knob twisting… that’s what they do.

I think Layers is brilliant, they’ve really put thought into the design and functions. And it doesn’t sound as EHX synthy wich is a relief. I could never stand the EHX freeze sound though many in my genre interest loves it. I just hate the synth of it.

In my opinion the TC Infinite pedals offers the bang for the buck regarding this as it has a lot of features packed with toneprint. Reverbs and modulations and presets.

I’d pick an TC and combine with pedals because the MXR price will also possibly be like an Infinite + other pedals, wich in turn offers more creative possibilities.

But MXR did good… no doubt.

Back on topic, I guess we'll have to keep an eye on the P&W guys to see if this pedal becomes the new big thing..
Everything new is always the new big thing for them.

As an example: Every Chase Bliss release must be bought, streamed on social media and then praised to the heavens as the best ambient/creative pedal in the world, until the next Chase Bliss release.
And CB is only one example.
On the other hand… those trend are not genre specific. Pedals is pedals and people are obsessed with them.

Yeah, that's true about EHX.

Whenever they release something, it's either a Muff variant, or it sounds like a cheap synth. 😂😂😂
