MARSHALL AMPS

Seeing how it's been almost impossible to get Marshall gear in the states since the price drop, it may be a good thing at least over the next few years.

The Sweeds made a good profit selling to China for 1.1 billion .
The Chinese company that bought Marshall have a very large portfolio of other companies they own.
Guitar Max runs through the list on his latest video.

So.. what's the issue exactly? I fail to see what the problem is.
If people are worried, that's fair. But people are talking as if this is game over for Marshall, which is pure speculation.

Wait until the dust settles and see what happens. Then talk about how Marshall is done (or better than ever, depending on how the dust settles).

The way the world is going I think more people are just worried about China .
If you think these massive Chinese companies have nothing to do with there government ? Your wrong.😳

I think people are concerned because private equity tends to rip companies apart. It seems like the sale to the Swedes was largely about consolidating the brand (the headphones/merch stuff was licenced out to another company previously) to then sell off as a bigger business.

What do you think a Chinese PE group are likely to do? Is there anything that gives you encouragement or optimism?

I don't really have any reaction to it, other than that I doubt they spent $1B to drive Marshall amps into rock bottom. That would be an incredible waste of money, but what do I know.. maybe that's what they want to do.

I just think it's too early to say anything really. It could go either way. They could make Marshall amps worse. Or they could make it better than my fellow Swedes.

People just love to talk trash though and predict the doom of companies.

Just a month ago, everyone was bashing Mesa - they seem to be selling the new reissues extremely well.

This month it's Marshall's turn, both the "failed" modded series as well as the sale to the Chinese. I think the modded series will sell like hotcakes, and the Chinese deal is kind of up in the air right now so we'll see how that turns out.

Next month I guess it's Fender's turn :P

EVERYTHING in China has something to do with their government.

According to the articles about this HongShan Capital bought 9.6%, and the family still owns over 20%.

I hope the family made sure that there was a clause in the contract protecting the MI side of things. Remember when Samsung bought Harmon International, one of the first things they did was kill Digitech/DOD because the music industry is an extremely tiny percentage of the consumer electronics market. Insignificant, really. The Chinese interest in the brand has absolutely nothing to do with guitar amplifiers.

I think private equity firms have a bit of a history/reputation with how they operate and what typically happens. I don’t really think it’s bashing Marshall, I think lots of music industry businesses are struggling and facing tough challenges, and this is just one part of it.

Private equity companies are known to gut companies for short term profits. They bought Marshall for the BT speakers and headphones, not for the amp company.

Which is about as boring as Mesa can be. Mesa to me has always stood for forward thinking new amps. They don't always hit the mark - pardon the pun - but they are at least more interesting than most amps coming out.

I don't see how 3000-3500€ modded versions of ~1700-1900 € amps can ever sell well. They are just too expensive to appeal to anyone but a very niche userbase.

The new pedals and amps showed that Marshall has zero vision.

Personally, I am just going to wait and see what happens before I spell doom on Marshall's part.
If you want to draw conclusions already based on your history with PE companies, that's certainly fine.

I just think it's a bit premature, but that's just my opinion.
