Any truth to the rumor that Marshall amps has been acquired by China? If so, that may be a sad end to a once proud company.
Everything you play will be recorded and sent to Winnie. It's not being acquired by the Chinese government.
First the transformers drama. What’s next?Everything you play will be recorded and sent to Winnie.
Oh bother.Everything you play will be recorded and sent to Winnie.
I think people are concerned because private equity tends to rip companies apart. It seems like the sale to the Swedes was largely about consolidating the brand (the headphones/merch stuff was licenced out to another company previously) to then sell off as a bigger business.So.. what's the issue exactly? I fail to see what the problem is.
If people are worried, that's fair. But people are talking as if this is game over for Marshall, which is pure speculation.
Wait until the dust settles and see what happens. Then talk about how Marshall is done (or better than ever, depending on how the dust settles).

What do you think a Chinese PE group are likely to do? Is there anything that gives you encouragement or optimism?
The way the world is going I think more people are just worried about China .
If you think these massive Chinese companies have nothing to do with there government ? Your wrong.![]()
According to the articles about this HongShan Capital bought 9.6%, and the family still owns over 20%.
I think private equity firms have a bit of a history/reputation with how they operate and what typically happens. I don’t really think it’s bashing Marshall, I think lots of music industry businesses are struggling and facing tough challenges, and this is just one part of it.I don't really have any reaction to it, other than that I doubt they spent $1B to drive Marshall amps into rock bottom. That would be an incredible waste of money, but what do I know.. maybe that's what they want to do.
I just think it's too early to say anything really. It could go either way. They could make Marshall amps worse. Or they could make it better than my fellow Swedes.
People just love to talk trash though and predict the doom of companies.
Just a month ago, everyone was bashing Mesa - they seem to be selling the new reissues extremely well.
This month it's Marshall's turn, both the "failed" modded series as well as the sale to the Chinese. I think the modded series will sell like hotcakes, and the Chinese deal is kind of up in the air right now so we'll see how that turns out.
Next month I guess it's Fender's turn![]()
Private equity companies are known to gut companies for short term profits. They bought Marshall for the BT speakers and headphones, not for the amp company.I don't really have any reaction to it, other than that I doubt they spent $1B to drive Marshall amps into rock bottom. Which is about as boring as Mesa can be. Mesa to me has always stood for forward thinking new amps. They don't always hit the mark - pardon the pun - but they are at least more interesting than most amps coming out.Just a month ago, everyone was bashing Mesa - they seem to be selling the new reissues extremely well.
I don't see how 3000-3500€ modded versions of ~1700-1900 € amps can ever sell well. They are just too expensive to appeal to anyone but a very niche userbase. This month it's Marshall's turn, both the "failed" modded series as well as the sale to the Chinese. The new pedals and amps showed that Marshall has zero vision.
Hong Kong IS China. It's being acquired by HongShan Capital, which is based in Hong Kong. It's not being acquired by the Chinese government.
Yes. But if they were acquired by Gibson would we say that they were acquired by the USA?Hong Kong IS China.
