Yeah but if all the touch screen functionality works on a tablet over WiFi or BT, I could see leaving the screen off a rack and maybe the Stomp. That could allow the rack to be 2u or even 1u as long as there is room for the IO ports. A 1u rack with a remote interface would be a pretty slick product. Line 6 could even offer a floorboard with foot switches and the touchscreen as an add on for those that want more than an iPad type of remote.

They could combine it with their own Ice module based power amp in a 2u format. Thats why I would leave the screen off the rack and use the wireless tech to off load it to somewhere else. Smaller is better in rack hardware these days because most people aren’t using the refrigerator size racks like the &0’s.

It's almost like you haven't spent much time in the digital section of various forums...new firmware drop drip only lasts for so long. There are a loooooot of folks that just NEED to try new tech, even if the newness is almost exclusively UI/form factor. 10 years with the same hardware is a LOOOOOOOOONG time for a lot of folks.

Also, to be fair, there are a lot of folks that have been using their Helix long enough that it's probably getting close to the "ya know, this thing is WELL slogged. I probably should replace it before a switch fails at just the wrong time" that probably wouldn't bother replacing with a new Helix OG, but will go for it with a new gen unit, even if all they do is copy all their old presets into it.

I've kinda wanted Fractal to do that sort of product. More of a "brain and I/O" box rather than making it a big hulking 3-4U box because a touchscreen needs the vertical space.

Touring pros would more likely have a laptop running the editor software hooked up rather than doing any tweaks on the front panel, so at most the front panel could have a simple display with e.g preset/snapshot/levels/tuner type data and everything else is done by an app.

You could probably do interesting things with something like Helix Stadium XL on stage + Helix Stadium Rack using the Nexus port wired up on the sidelines. Player on stage using the XL and the Rack doing e.g additional processing, inputs/outputs etc. so the XL runs your guitar stuff and the Rack runs the rest of the band.

(also, is there a way to determine year of production of a Helix from serial number? I'd be pretty wary of spending the typical asking price on an 8 year old LT at this point)
