Layoff Limbo

And it's relatively flat!
Denmark too. It was funny seeing that when people get off work in Copenhagen, there was a bicycle rush hour rather than a car rush hour like in most places.

I'm in my 40s and I've yet to own a car. I've borrowed or rented one plenty of times, but just don't need one in my daily life at all. I can take the tram from right next door.

Excited for the snow to melt and the ice to go away so I can get out there again after
a few months with the bikes in storage.
:banana
I couldn't wait and used my bicycle all winter. Luckily my way to work was mostly plowed so I didn't got stuck.
And it's relatively flat!
That's a gimmick. Hills are the best. You only really know how heavy your load is when you pedal up that steep road! Also it usually involves having a nice view!

If you were wondering (you probably weren't) how I haul my stuff to rehearsals and gigs, this is how I do:

Had to carry a big computer screen, so I needed that box.

Life Update:

I signed the papers to accept a new job today.

Celebrate Mr Bean GIF by Working Title

My title will be the same rank as I was on track to achieve either this year or next year at my old employer. Also, the base salary is 18% higher than what I had at my previous job.

The only real downside that I'm aware of at this point is the new commute is going to suck. Average one way commute times will be 1-1.5 hours.

Thanks to those whom have offered emotional support and encouragement along the way. Today is a good day.

Congrats! Hopefully the commute isn't every day? At least you'll get to listen to a lot of music and podcasts!

Congrats man!

Thankfully not. It will be 3 days in the office / two days from home. Still, my previous job required about 5 hours of total commute time per week. I will probably be doing closer to 7 or 8 hours of commute time per week at this location. Hopefully I won't end up hating that part of my life too much because my wife doesn't want to move.

I will add that I feel rather fortunate to have found a position this quickly. Within my department of 30 people there are only 6 people who have been hired so far and 3 of those ended up finding positions in other departments at the previous employer. Several people have decided to retire since they were close enough to go that route, but many of my colleagues are still looking for work.

Hopefully the move ends up being a positive for you!

I had mentioned before in my layoff thread, but it was a real challenge making that transition as I had been there nearly 20 years. Many of my former coworkers also landed elsewhere in the company. But when I visited with a bunch of them over a year later most of them were unhappy and looking to move on.

My new position is a bigger challenge but the company is great and they've rewarded the hell out of me for working hard. There's far more opportunities here than at the old company. Downside is I'm carrying more stress and have less time during the day to tinker with non work stuff. But what can you do...
