Is the guy OK?

I was on YouTube yesterday and just the titles of all his videos sound like he’s in a serious spiral with gear lately.

Teles are better than Strats
Do Strats and Teles really sound that different?

A Tele could be the only guitar I need
Am I done with Telecasters?
I gigged my Telecaster

I sold so many guitars to buy this Telecaster
Taking a break from my Telecaster

Do I need a Les Paul?
This is the best Les Paul I’ve ever had
I sold my Les Paul

I like my Sire LP better than my Gibson
This Gibson is the best LP I’ve played
I sold my Les Paul

Are Les Paul’s even relevant anymore?
I’m so glad I gigged my Les Paul
Can you play a whole gig with a Les Paul?

Are cheap guitars just as good as expensive guitars?
This cheap guitar is better than my expensive guitar
It’s better to have just a few expensive guitars

I wasted my money on an expensive guitar - I like this cheap guitar better
I bought a Danocaster

The problem with digital
Why pros all use digital

Tube amps are better
Are tube amps dead?

Why I switched to amps
Why I switched to digital

What’s the point of gigs with no amps
Why I stopped using amps at gigs

All the YT content creators are losing their collective shit right now.

The algorithm is in meltdown, and driving them to push harder for clicks.

Pretty sure we all know that Content Creating is inherently toxic and inevitably debilitating.

At some point you run out of genuine and valid content to share and fling out to the masses. :rollsafe

Oh, and I never watch him. Just heard OF him... and his kind.

I went through a short time of watching him because I like his playing and he has some similar tone preferences. But I got tired of his shtick quickly.

It’s too bad he doesn’t do videos about playing ideas and being a working guitarist. I feel like he could offer some interesting info on those topics, but I guess that doesn’t sell as well as gear demos.

Kind of sad that the content that sells the best these days is analyzing/comparing/rating/demoing equipment for making music instead of music itself

What’s really sad is the pipeline from interesting content to uninteresting, unending demos. I’ve lost count of how many channels just became uninteresting to me over time.

Lately, I really like CyberAttack for content that isn’t necessarily trying to sell you something but trying to show you how to effectively use the tools in the toolbox.

Maybe, like me, you just got oversaturated with the gear demos? I still watch some but I used to watch a lot more.

Ultimately we're talking about channels that have been running for years. If I had to come up with something new even every week I'd probably run out of ideas eventually. The YT etc algorithms try to push you to put out content way more often than that, even if it's just Shorts.

With the gear comes financial incentives. Gear demos become a business for bigger channels, and a semi-business for smaller ones where they demo the gear and then maybe sell it if they don't use it and got it from the manufacturer in exchange for making a video.

I think it happens to a lot of channels where they start with just doing their own thing, gain a following and get popular enough for companies to send gear to them to test and demo.

I also noticed a few weeks ago, I think with the buyer’s remorse over a Tele vid, that the titles were coming out in a certain direction. That said, I don’t even care because once he starts playing I forgot about the titles and start thinking I need to work on EJ shit for a bit like I did with the Gilmour shit to retain some of it.

Yes and no. Keyan Houshmand is one example that comes to mind. His early content was really neat (IMO), but it slowly became sponsored demo after sponsored demo. I lost interest in what he started putting out. But for sure, YouTube offers me up more gear demo channels than something like CyberAttack. I found that one completely outside of YouTube recommendations, but I like the content a lot more.

Don’t get me wrong, though. I totally get the need to pay the bills and don’t entirely begrudge these content creators for pursuing the more lucrative path. My use of sad is more like, sad when your work mate finds a different job somewhere. On one hand, good for them. Get the bag. On the other hand, they’re moving on. (I swear I don’t feel a parasocial relationship to these YouTubers, I just can’t think of a better analogy at this point.)

Great googly-moogly, I subscribed to that channel, but lately just looking at the thumbnails gives me a worse headache than what he appears to have in half the stills.

Seriously, I have liked the channel in the past, but the constant about-face topics are giving me whiplash.

Unfortunetly, for content creators, to make any kind of livig out of posting they need to create content, and YT has changed so they now have to create more and more in order to make a buck.

I just feel fortunet to have a job and not be a content creator slave.

Didn’t he mention he’s too busy to post on forums or something? With a toddler, gigging about twice a week, and filming and editing two videos daily, I could understand why.

Come to think on of it, where did all of the TGF “celebrities” go? 🤔
