My Edwards LPS is my dream Les Paul, my Fender Japan Modern Strat is my dream Superstrat. I have rock and metal sounds completely covered. But what I've always been missing is a guitar with single coils, especially for clean or Floyd-style stuff. So I started looking for a more classic Strat that's good but not too expensive, and just ordered a Henry's Snake:

The plan is to equip it with an EMG SA set – possibly a ready-made DG20 (David Gilmour) pickguard with three single coils and special electronics, or an SA/SA/89 set if I don't want to replace the pickguard. The 89 is splittable, so it would be a very versatile solution. However, I'm leaning more towards 3 single coils to really set the guitar apart from my others.

The guitar arrived today and... well... it's going back.

The guitar itself is really great, no question about it, especially for the very reasonable price. But my idea that I really need a guitar with single coils for better clean and ambient sounds vanished into thin air after the first few minutes of playing it. In fact, I actually prefer the middle position of my Edwards with EMG 81/85 humbuckers, even if I have to reduce the output for really clean sounds, depending on the amp model.

Oh man, what a bummer, TTZ! I was excited for you and then I saw your update from today. :(

There's a lot to like in realizing what you already have works.

I still felt a slight urge for a guitar with single coils, so I decided to equip my PRS S2 Custom 22 with an EMG 57/66 TW set, which can be switched to single coil mode via push/pull. The guitar has hardly been used for several months because, like my other guitars, it is equipped with the regular EMG humbuckers, but it just doesn't sound as convincing as the others in chug mode. So why not find another use for it and make it my clean guitar? I hope the pickups will be delivered by Christmas so I can play with them during the holidays.

To be honest, I'm actually not that bummed.
I had that same feeling with a Mesa Mk V purchase. I got "caught up" in it being a great deal, and I'd always wanted to try a real one, but once I saw the order had been cancelled (for unimportant reasons), I was actually relieved. Mainly because I don't gig, didn't need it, and have 3 other Mesa amps that can cover any ground I want.

(I don't use that same "logic" however, when it comes to EBMM's though. hehe)

Damn, my plan to put an EMG 57/66 TW set in my PRS didn‘t work. The TW pickups are quite a bit thicker than the regular humbuckers, and didn‘t fit in the cavities. Back to the beginning…

I kinda wish I hadn‘t sent back the Henry‘s.
