I Miss RJD

Read Wendy's book, cannot recall the name but easy to find. 1/2 of it is his lengthy history trying to make it.

Two funny spots in the book.
1- Wendy was a waitress at the rainbow grill in Hollywood. RJD is hitting on her and she was not interested. She writes in the book "he was too short for me" :rofl
2-Fast forward a few years into and out of the Rainbow years Ronnie meets Tony at the Rainbow and they get together and write 'Children of the sea' straight away! At this time Ronnie and Wendy are a couple and they share a meal where Ronnie tells her "I'm not sure I like their music" She says wait for it,.... "you better like it we have $700 in the bank"!!!

Just crazy how as a star struck kid we gaze at the album covers, band pics and hear them on the radio and assume they are filthy rich. Not so much!

Sammy's book said the same following Montrose firing him.
VH brothers lived at home with their parents until the 3rd album. They were gone on tour for the first few years but also had to pay the record companies back before they started making real dough :beer

Yeah Nah,
That's like saying the Ozzy Jake era was as good as Randy. Many do but yeah nah :crazy
The Jake era was great. Good tunes on bark at the Moon, and ultimate sin. After that its just been ho hum for me. Zakk just doesn't do it for me, too commercial, and not a great guitar player That said. If i had to pick one album, for all time. Ozzy, blizzard of Ozz....there is nothing better for me. I love everything about it. Also Dio holy diver. I feel the same way about it. Every song on that album kicked ass.

100% agree. With time and pushing out a lot of material in a short time the artists become stagnant with creativity. Think about how much writing Dio did between the 1st Dio/Sabbath album and Last in line all in the span of less than 4 years? To me Mob rules had some really good songs but overall was rushed and nowhere near as amazing as HnH as a whole
For Dio by sacred heart he and Viv were on the outs and obviously more cheesy and radio oriented which was very limited.

According to Viv there were promises about pay going up over time that never happened. In the book Wendy had a different perspective. My take is Dio never really had made significant money until this time and he was holding back on the band due to 30 plus years of slogging it out in clubs and until Ritchie and rainbow came along was no where near close to breaking out famous

Bottom line 1st two Dio albums like the 1st two Ozzy ones with Randy were timeless classics. Here is my previous band covering Holy diver,...can you tell I'm a fan for life? :beer

I didn't play guitar when Blizzard of Ozz came out, but i was always attracted to guitar. When holy diver came out i was just starting to learn to play (yes i am that old)...like Randy, I knew Viv was something special.
