I just geeked out on picks...

No matter what picks I try I always seem to eventually end up back with the regular medium celluloid. Of all the picks I’ve mentioned in this thread I’m once again gravitating back to these. They seem to be my destiny.

Nothing else even comes close to sounding as good to me

So I got a pack of Ultex jazz 3 picks and a pack of Ultex jazz iii 2.0. The 2.0 are thicker but sound completely different, super bright and defined. The regular Ultex jazz iii are really dull sounding. Way different design and sound.

Interesting, I don’t remember the ultex jazz iii being dull. I remember I liked that they were the same slightly-bigger size as the EJ jazz iii.

Do the Ultex 2.0 have a bevel? I had one regular black 2.0 and the only thing I didn’t like about it was there was no bevel

I tried the 2mm version and had to smooth the edges to use them at all. The texture feels crap against the strings imo . Shame because once I sorted that out it was really good but I’m not going to do that on every pick I use.

I switched to stainless picks back in the early 1980's, due to developing Malmsteen / Di Meola picking techniques, even thick Fender Picks would would be reduced to dust.
Stainless steel has less resistance, but chews up D strings like a MOFO .

YJM picks very lightly Al less so but neither wear out picks. SS picks sound terrible and as you say destroy your strings.

I have used the old English sixpenny pieces but had never actually tried a stainless steel pick until earlier this year when I bought a box of these off amazon for £6

Good fun to use but not a everyday pick .
I tried on a few different guitars and didn’t break any strings 👍
