I feel like my TGP is showing.

Well I've been living with the Alnico V set for 5 days now and I really like them. I've used them at quiet tv volumes, the kids at school bloody loud levels and with a full band at rehearsal last night. If I had just ordered these I wouldn't bother changing, they're exactly the strat sound I was looking for.

I thought the bridge would be more shrill tbh but it's really fat but bright in a good way. Playing on the neck pickup into a Marshall through a germanium FF with the volume rolled back is a clean tone to die for. I genuinely don't have any criticisms or complaints at the minute.

I'm going to put the other pickguard in tonight and run with the Alnico iii set for a while. I'll post some feedback on those next weekend.

I'm curious what the results will be, especially with fuzz. (y)

Me too. I was going to switch them earlier but I think I need to live with both of them for a while and use in them different scenarios to really get a feel for any differences.
My guess is 3 will interact with a FF more dynamically? Not sure, I've never been deep into magnet types. Although, I tend to own a lot of ceramic ones, so I guess my ear is tuned to that moreso.

I genuinely don't know tbh. My original preconception about the bridge pickup was totally wrong so I'll just have to use them and find out.

That is the thing with pickups, you never really know til they're in your guitar, played with your hands through your gear, etc. But it's the only proper way to work these things out though. It's why I have too many sets. :ROFLMAO:

Me too, I went of a paf journey a bunch of years ago and still have a load of them. The same pickups will often sound different in other guitars. It's why I think I'm better trialling these sets in the same guitar rather than two different (yet similar) strats.

What Paf did you like best?
Done that one a few times over the years.
Last time between;
Original paf
Gibson custombucker
Lollar
Fralin
Throbak
Ron Ellis
Duncan antiqauty
Tom Homes
All in a 59 that the electrics had been switched out in the dim distant past.
It’s incredibly difficult to find a decent set of original ones that are in good order because the better ones stayed in the instruments . Most are rewinds , really bad sounding or fake. A last time that people took them out was really the 70s and then it was for high output stuff like the super distortion or dirty fingers.

This is a real 59 but now just has a standard set of Duncan’s . It had super distortions in it at one time . I dealer friend was selling it. It’s a dog’s dinner of alterations and none original parts.
The paf set we had;

My favourite was the Throbak and my own set of pafs this one was decidedly meh.

I should mention that 59 mess wasn’t the one we were looking for pickups for. It was the only picture of a seriously altered 59 I had . That one went as is.

Always wanted to try Throbaks but they're just too spendy for me. I don't think I could bring myself to spend that much on a set of pickups.

I like all of the sets I've kept, no idea how accurate they really are tbh. I've only ever played three guitars with pafs in them. I really liked the Lollar Imperials, BK Mules, Montys PAF and a set of MOJO PAFs. I'd happily put any of them in a guitar. I've got the Montys in my LP at the minute because that set has my favourite neck humbucker.

Probably won't stay like that for long though. Someone is bound to "restore" it with a bunch of repro parts.

That's cool. I wonder what pickups it had in it then?
I always thought it had super distortions but I think those have regular poles so I am not sure.
If you haven’t seen it this it a good source of vintage fender pictures
It also shows that hardly any necks go like the back of a fender relic 🤣

No, I've never seen that site before. This is excellent, thanks.
