Well I've been living with the Alnico V set for 5 days now and I really like them. I've used them at quiet tv volumes, the kids at school bloody loud levels and with a full band at rehearsal last night. If I had just ordered these I wouldn't bother changing, they're exactly the strat sound I was looking for.

I thought the bridge would be more shrill tbh but it's really fat but bright in a good way. Playing on the neck pickup into a Marshall through a germanium FF with the volume rolled back is a clean tone to die for. I genuinely don't have any criticisms or complaints at the minute.

I'm going to put the other pickguard in tonight and run with the Alnico iii set for a while. I'll post some feedback on those next weekend.

Me too. I was going to switch them earlier but I think I need to live with both of them for a while and use in them different scenarios to really get a feel for any differences.

My guess is 3 will interact with a FF more dynamically? Not sure, I've never been deep into magnet types. Although, I tend to own a lot of ceramic ones, so I guess my ear is tuned to that moreso.

That is the thing with pickups, you never really know til they're in your guitar, played with your hands through your gear, etc. But it's the only proper way to work these things out though. It's why I have too many sets.

Me too, I went of a paf journey a bunch of years ago and still have a load of them. The same pickups will often sound different in other guitars. It's why I think I'm better trialling these sets in the same guitar rather than two different (yet similar) strats.
