Hybrid Rig Setups!

Hazmat suit is my shiny silver pants. Ii have to hang inside out after wearing as I can't was them and they'll get moldy

Why the separate pedals? Wouldn't the VP4 do a good SD-1, whatever chorus, whammy and also has a good tuner? Or is it just so you can dedicate the VP4 for time/pitch fx?
Mainly because the VP4 can't do 4CM (5CM?) in stereo. I run it at the end of the chain direct to FOH.
But yeah, I mostly use it as a glorified delay box, with the occasional reverb/pitch stuff.
FTR, yes, the SD-1 model is fantastic.

My guitars are still analog, so I guess I have a hybrid setup, too.

But seriously, my ENGL E530 preamp is the only analog device I have left. And I use it with digital power amp emulation.

What digital power amp emulation do you use? I’m trying to find good options for use with Synergy modules.

Not a true Zoltan but if you’re OK with plugins there are some good packs of power amp captures available for NAM and the capture player is free. Free and easy to download, PM me if you want some links.

Yeah, I’m interested in both hardware and software solutions for use with Synergy preamps/modules.

I’ve already planned on testing NAM power amp captures from @2dor and @Slammin Mofo. I will also check if I can disable the preamp in some of my other amp plugins. I will also try to find some Tonex power amp captures (having a Tonex One) and also try using the power amp sim in my Two-Notes Cab M+. I’m also looking into the Axiom PAE-2.

I will of course also try using the power amp in my Bogner Shiva 20th (power amp input, or 4CM), and also consider buying a SYN-20IR, a SYN-5050 or another separate power amp.

Or perhaps hook the SYN-1 up to my old Axe-FX II + Matrix GT1000FX rack.

I’m still waiting for my SYN-1 to arrive, but look forward to giving these things a shot.

But sorry for the thread derail - I will send you a PM @Progressive_disclosure.

No need, those are the power amp captures I’ve been using except the ones I made myself of my amp. Post your verdict when the SYN-1 arrives and you’ve done some testing!

I kind of ditched the Hybrid Rig Setup for the time being---and have an all
digital rig (Fractal, Interface, DAW, Monitors) and an mostly all-analog using
a pedalboard in W/D Configuration into left and right Tube Amps.

If I had to choose I wouldn't---because hypotheticals suck.

Before I went back to an Analog Pedal Setup I was running dual FM3s into
the Tube Amps FX Returns.

I may go back to that someday. :love It's fun as fuck. I would run 2 different Amp/Cab configs on the
FM3s, and then used the DMM as my splitter for W/D, into the Looper, and then into the 2 Amps.

I felt like I was getting a dash of latency that was fucking me up, though. Maybe it was just in my head.
Latency is my mortal enemy. :satan:satan:cuss:cuss

There are a few available for ToneX, and I use three of these with my tube preamps (via a ToneX One post the tube preamp in my FM3's FX Loop)...

I use the Bogner Ecstasy 3534 EL34, the Mesa Mark III 6L6, and the H&K VS250 EL84 (unique as it's a stereo 50W with 4 EL84's per side and decent iron). With the ToneX One you can have three that are easy to access via the hardware, as well the EQ and gain/volume etc.

I still have the ol' "tube amp into speaker cab" thing, but all of my "rigs" (gear combinations, really) used to produce tracks I suppose would be considered hybrid.

Using real analog stuff (some old as fuck) combined with today's digital technology.

IDGAF what it is, as long as it sounds good.

A hybrid rig example (my guitar with real backing track):

Did my first ever ampless gig last night with this setup...I was really happy with the sound out of the monitors, and we were able to get a live off the floor recording from the board which also sounded pretty good. I think I'm going to be using this setup from now on for any rock gigs where there's a decent PA and somebody doing sound for us. Just need to get a direct box for my pedalboard.

To be honest, I'm not a fan of hybrid setups at the moment. On paper it reads like the best of both worlds, but in reality it's always a compromise and also includes (or possibly even highlights) the negative aspects of each. For example, I recently sold my VP4, which I had been using with my ENGL E530 preamp. It seemed like a wonderful idea at first - all the flexibility and variety of the effects and the wonderful possibilities of the 4-cable method! In reality, I didn't really utilise the supposed advantages, but was increasingly annoyed by the increase in noise and latency caused by two additional AD/DA conversions. At the moment I'm of the opinion that I prefer either entirely analogue (well, except for the speaker simulation with impulse responses, of course) or completely digital, and not a mishmash that causes problems rather than solving them.
