How Do You Store Your Gear at Home?

Not sure if this is the right place, but I am looking for solutions for gear storage at home that makes it convenient to play without completely tearing down after every practicing.

The wifey is getting pissed with all my gear laying out all over the floor in a spare TV room. I get her frustration wanting everything tidy and sorted when not being used, but she doesn't get the fact that it is a pain in the ass to set up and tear down after every use when you practice multiple times a day.

So as any good partner does, I offered a compromise. I suggested I get some sort of cart or other solution that can allow my gear to stay set up but can be rolled off to the side, behind a couch, pulled out and opened up (Board & Bag), etc.

Anyone have a good solution or "cart" they use for this purpose? Or would going ahead and going down the Pedal board rabbit hole be best where everything fits in a "bag" and you just pull it out, plug in the cords to amp be better? I'm thinking the latter because I have band practice every week and just started an acoustic project with a singer in another band his guitarist wasn't interested in due to drive time, so tearing down for band practices and then setting back up at home.

My rig is pretty simple but a little on the larger side, Stomp XL and Tonex Pedal in the loop of the Stomp, all in 4CM with Marshall amp 2 button foot switch.

Feel free to post up pics of how you keep everything tidy. Thanks!!

Well, I have Yamaha THR , and that stuff is on night stand. So 0 space basically for that one to take away from. Same as my midi-keyboard. My PC table is big enough so I just put my midi-keys on PC Table. ^^ Only real like space taker is guitar with stand.

I wish I had a better setup too. But I'm constantly taking stuff for shows and rehearsal and we share a workout room w a music room so it's kinda setup and tear down every time which is a pain but better than nothing I guess.

I basically have my mono dual gig bag, helix backpack, and akai case packed and ready to go and then one of those 4 or 5 platform stands in the corner for the stuff I don't bring and a 5 guitar lean to type stand. I have my mako 4x12 and my studio monitors on top of it.

I have an office/studio room where I do whatever I want with gear and the rest of the house is gear free.

If people are coming to visit etc I just keep that door closed.

But my wife is also a musician, so that makes things easier. She also has a room for her arts and crafts stuff.

I understand not wanting stuff all around the house, but if iit's in a spare room, I don't see an issue.

Our current apartment is pretty small at 63 m2 (including a small sauna! :pickle). My multi-guitar rack lives in the living room, fitting perfectly in a space between two doors so it's not in the way.

I have the BluGuitar Nanocab 1x12 sitting under a desk in my little office room. A BluGuitar Fatcab 1x12 sits maybe 1m away from it with two BluGuitar Amp 1s on top of it for stereo.

Then I got a IKEA Råskog trolley with bamboo plates on each tier. It's a great little storage for cables, mics etc. I put my pedalboard on the top plate, which puts it at a nice waist height for easy access to knobs. It can be easily moved out of the way as needed.

My hope is to be able to buy a little house within the next few years where I can have more of a dedicated office/guitar room.

Pedalboard. You've been hauling separate power supplies and patch cables to gigs/rehearsals and setting up from scratch every time?!? Will also put way less wear on the Stomp/ToneX. Can probably just leave it in the bag when playing at home.

Wow, that's really small, I know how it feels.

I lived in an apartment like that (was 55 m2) for several years with my wife, before having kids, and I had my desk with all my gear in the living room and she never complained because she knew how important is for me.

Now I have several kids, a big house and a room that is my studio where I work and play.

including a small sauna! :pickle

Now that's something!

I use a wheeled cart that fits into a closet. It has five shelves and holds a lot of pedals. I also think having a couple of small boards as needed is a good idea for grab and go.

Yeah since we don't have kids, one room more would be great so my wife could have her own office/hobby space.
At least the layout is great so there's very little wasted space.

Yeah, the more I think about it, that is probably the direction I'm going to go. I need one 20+ inches wide and at least 8 inches deep or one 12x12 inches to accommodate the Stomp XL & tonex pedal plus a little extra for additions later on.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone! It's refreshing to know that I am not the only one in this situation, lol...

Luckily I pretty much have free run of a finished basement so there are a couple of random cabs, a tent bag with my portable vocal booth. But the majority of my music stuff lives under my desk when I’m not at rehearsal. All the cables stay plugged into the interface and monitors, the couple that go to my modeler are routed behind the desk and live on the floor when not connected. That said, a house that isn’t in some minor state of disarray doesn’t feel like home, lol. I’m always a little weary when people’s houses are like hotel lobbies, lol.

Ours is well lived in and no hotel lobby, but the wifey is an ADD kid/adult, so always running around the house looking for things to "Organize" but never seems to remember where things went after the organization episode :sofa:rofl

You can get dirt cheap pedalboards off Amazon. Problem solved!

My guitars are in a pile waiting to be sold in my home office, but my synth setup is on a desk I built that's on wheels so I can move it around.

If you can, just design a custom solution and build it! You get exactly what you want (or what you deserve if you're a hack like me :rofl )
