I have my own home office in the basement where I work out of (I'm usually home four days a week and go into the office one day per week). It's completely full of gear and is a mess 90% of the time because outside of a full time job I have three kids and a house to take care of.
I have a few shelves full of stuff. Two big shelves that fit ~ six big totes of things on each. Some of it's guitar stuff, some of it's tools, some paperwork, cables, etc. The big modeler stuff I try and keep on shelving units. Guitars are in one of those Hercules racks.
We sold our house five years ago right at the start of Covid lockdowns and limitations. So we couldn't do open houses, we had to do individual showings. That meant we had to always keep the house 100% spotless clean and tidy for showings where we could get a request 1-2 hours beforehand.
That was actually kind of a neat experience as I've never lived in a house that clean before or since. How did we keep it clean? By keeping almost none of our stuff there. I packed up 90% of our belongings and put it in a storage unit. We had almost the bare minimum, clothes for the week for everyone, some of the kids favorite toys, etc. I would zip through the house each morning picking up all the clothes, vacuuming the floors, and wiping everything down. It only took 20 minutes to clean the house top to bottom because we did it daily.
I ended up downsizing all my gear to basically one guitar, an amp modeler (Axe FX 3), and headphones. If there was a showing, I packed the guitar in a gig bag and brought those things up and put them in our bedroom closet. No cables anywhere, no mess anywhere, super simple. I honestly miss that simplicity sometimes because I wish I could be a minimalist. But I'm basically a hoarder at heart.
Then what I would do is go "shopping" sometimes, which meant visiting the storage unit and swapping out my guitar for a different one. The place was 10 minutes away so it wasn't a big deal but I would only go there at max once a week. That kept things interesting.
If I was living really small again, I'd fully downsize to maybe 2-3 guitars, one amp modeler, and a pair of headphones. You can set it up and do anything you want easily and if needed put the stuff away. I'd keep the extra guitars in a closet and rotate them in/out.
