How do you know if you're being scammed?

I got this email. Seems innocent enough. I guess I could ask for his phone number and talk to him for a second? This seems legit and simple enough, but I don't know how those scams work.

Like you said, I think it merits reaching out!

I know there is a scam where they send a whole bunch more than asking price, ask you to refund, etc. So be careful of that

I'm not clever or evil enough to see how the scam could work. You guys agree on price, he sends you the Venmo, you transfer it to your account, then ship the pedal after it clears your account (3 biz days). Even if he somehow tries to get a refund, you've already got your money, right?
