I bought a Foxy Tone Box by Warm Audio, a recreation of the original Foxx Fuzz from the 70's.

It sounds really cool for leads and ebow but I'm really not sure what I would use it for other than that. I guess I'm just not much of a fuzz guy. The thing is massive, almost as big as my MercuryX pedal, and I kinda resent giving up the pedal space for it.

Hrrrmmmph.

It's a fuzz circuit I've never used but octave fuzz is next on my list of fuzz to explore. I've pretty much mined fuzz faces, tone benders and big muff variants now.

Sometimes you need a pedal for that one cool sound for a few solos, sometimes you don’t

I used to keep a few pedals around that were “special effects” sounds that I might use on a song or two, but not the sort of thing I would use on every song.

It is cool, but it is going back tbh.

I just ordered the VP4. I think for the odd fuzz, compressor, gate, EQ, etc... it'll do just the job. But most of the time it will be something like drive/mod/delay/reverb
Great choice. (y)

I had an original Foxx Tone Machine in the 90s. The two things I remember were that it sounded huge and ate batteries like crazy. I also had the Fuzz/Wah, which was pretty cool (but kind of awkward to operate). The wah enclosure was like a Maestro Boomerang but had a footswitch on the far side of the pedal, after the treadle. I love fuzz pedals but didn't agonize about keeping either, so I think you've probably made the right decision to send it back.

Just playing devils advocate. A ridiculous fuzz pedal can be a very useful recording tool. Layer it under your chorus guitars for a wall of sound. Double sections of lead lines for impact. Put a snare through it and bury it in the mix.
