Fill this hole

If I stomped on those on the edges they would break off .
I guess your not going to play live with your board.

Hi saw RE-202 and got tunnel vision, Al other text became blurry

I’d get that :love

Full disclosure, never tried it in front of an amp before (well, deluxe reverb aside)

I firmly believe there is a Sunface for everyone, and everyone owes it to themselves
to try one (or 10!) at some point in their life. Si, Ge... and a bunch of different flavours
of both. Lo Gainers. Hi Gainers. Medium Gainers.

My opinion is no one does it better than Mike. And they are great to work with---provided
you are not waiting 5 years for a King of Tone. :lol

Muffs are cool, but my hunch is given what I know about your tastes and styles a FF would
come into play more, and you would use it. You can get the same type of amp-like cleanup
and variations in drive/dirt using your touch and volume control. :chef

Actually will also second Sunface… I need another one one of these days

Probably the best fuzz face out there. However I will concede an EQD dreamcrusher in that category as well (although discontinued). More so if you’re looking for destruction and building leveling from a FF circuit. For everything else tho Sunfacw where it’s at

Dude, it was seeing one on your board that lit that fire.

It’s my core “extremely frequently on” delay sound. I have my primary setting dialed in tor he point that sometimes I forget how much more it’s capable of besides that…

I’ve ended up with some other amazing presets by pure accident of knobs moving around in my pedalboard bar and accidentally going into “manual” mode. It’s both utilitarian and also a far out shamanic trip machine

... on my pedalboard, please. :pickle :rofl

I shifted things around and have a 5X7" space on my board now, which gives me room for either one bigger pedal, two regular, or regular + mini, or two minis. Have an open 660mA output on my Eventide PowerMax.

Thinking of something that would preferably go in front of the amp, as I'm really digging how amazing the VP4 sounds in the loop, especially regarding general signal quality, and don't want to mess with that.

Related to ^^^, I have an HX Stomp that fits nicely, but sadly I've realized it kills a bit of tone when bypassed, even in the loop, and especially when in front of the amp (even with a buffer before it and in analog bypass). Interestingly, the HX One sounds better than the Stomp when bypassed. Also, the Stomp is a pain to power, although I can do it with some daisy-chaining of other pedals.

So, looking for something preferably analog or, if digital, with a great bypassed state like the One, that's an in-front-of-amp effect.

Some things I've considered:

- Fulltone Octavia: currently use the HX One for this, but had the Fulltone in the past and loved it

- Belle Epoch Deluxe: love that sound and have always wanted to try it, however I've become more of a delay-in-the-loop guy, and now have more killer delays than I could ever ask for with the VP4

- RE-202 Space Echo (full size): same points as the Belle ^^^, but also not sure about the buffered bypass?

- FUZZ: something big and wooly that works with a clean/gritty channel, which I now have with the MKVII, + humbuckers, maybe a Big Muff? (The Keeley Fuzz Head I have is for boosting Crunch with very low amount of fuzz.)

- JHS Unicorn + Prestige: kind of boring, as I already own them, also have no use for vibe or boost without a Strat, and don't have one, and not sure if I want to buy a guitar at the moment, really digging my '73 Custom and don't want to play anything else these days

- Overdrives/boosts: don't really need, as I'm covered with the MXR CBMOD and Fuzz Head already on there

- another HX One? Could use in the loop for Reverse Delay and Transistor Tape, which I do miss, having moved to the VP4; just not sure about messing with pristine VP4 signal quality back there

Overall, it's tricky to pick something because I've got so much covered with the HX One in front and VP4 in the loop, haha. But would be cool to add stuff that's better in an analog version, like fuzz or something along those lines?
Anyway, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Available space is to right of HX One, sitting above the PowerMax supply. :beer

TL ; DR: I have space on my board, help me pick something, preferably for front of amp.

Altoid tin. Fill the hole with a hole.

I’ve been migrating back to a traditional (mostly analog) pedalboard and the re-202 was the one exception where I happily went digital. Not a ton of analog space echos out there unless you’re plopping an OG RE201 on your board.

The 202 needed to beat the Helix space echo which had kept me anchored in the Helix ecosystem for the last few years as I have a ton of material written around it. I do think the re-202 is superior though the tap tempo setting out of the box is one of the worst I’ve seen - fortunately Boss issued a very rare firmware update and added other tap options that are closer to what I’m used to in the Helix.

All that said - it’s perhaps not best served front loading a dirty amp. I’m using it that way but understand it’s a special effect and not the norm.

If I were looking for something fun to put in front of the amp, I’d be looking at some real vibey analog modulation recreations ala PastFx, or some of the fuzz recommendations others have mentioned here.

FWIW I’m using the true bypass option on the 202 and not detecting any coloration there, where I absolutely battle with my Helix stuff no matter where I put it in the chain - similar to your observations.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I do appreciate them! :beer

Well, I found a solution last night that is somehow both kind of boring while also super cool. I gave the Stomp another try and was able to get it sounding great in the loop. Kind of embarrassing, but I didn't realize when I was trying it late the other night, just using an old preset, that the preset output level was knocked down a few dB. :bonkBrought it back up to unity and it sounds fine. :pickle

So I've now got the VP4+StompInTheLoop™ and HX One in front along with my favourite analog drives and modulation, so I'm pretty happy overall. Seems like the best of all worlds, including the VII with channel-switching controlled by the VP4. :love :love :love

The Stomp gives me the one-switch looper back as well, which I love. Cliff has mentioned a looper may arrive for the VP4, but that could be a while, and I do love the easy, single-switch operation of this one. At gigs, I'll use Reverse Delay and maybe some Transistor Tape, and I like having the amp models as backup, which I can run straight to the board if I have a problem with my real amp. HX One in front will be mainly for Octavia and octave-down, fake bass ( and going to give the Freqout model a try, thanks @DrewJD82).

Here's a pic:

Oh, and as a side note, the HX One still can't pass midi through, which is very annoying. Midi Out will work, but not Thru, so I can't integrate it that way with the VP4 and VII, yet. Also doesn't save on/off status either, so not very useful even if I could, at this point. Both of these issues were supposed to be fixed in 3.8, I think, but there was an HX One-specific problem and they pulled the update and haven't fixed it.
