HILS Headless on the cheap. Seems too good to be true

My pickup routes are tight but don't see any fuck ups at least. The neck on my Ibanez S is just as close (maybe more so) to the neck pickup and I got it out easy.

The output jack is "a bit of meh" but still works for me in classical position.

Mine came in. Its literally flawless, I can't find a single issue with it. I was able to get the action way down low too with no buzzing.

My pickups were a little stuck initially too. Easy fix. Loosen the screws all the way and gently pull the pickup upwards with your fingers. That freed mine up, and now they adjust easily.

My only gripe is actually about the fret size. The frets seem to be low profile on mine. I much prefer tall, enormous, jumbo frets, as big as I can get em. I do have a bunch of guitars armed with medium jumbo frets and I can play anything on those. These frets are supposed to be medium jumbo, but they feel lower than that.

At least they aren't the cheapo round-edge frets you see on a lot of budget guitars, they feel solid. Still, as much as I love the guitar, I might try a Strandberg Essential since they come with jumbo SS frets. I might also write HILS and see if they can put bigger frets on later models.

Oh also the pickups are absolutely nothing to write home about IMO. They don't sound bad, they just sound super generic and characterless. Still though, you are getting a ton of guitar for your money.

Glad to hear this. Maybe if they do up the fret size, nut width and put a different voiced pickup in the bridge....I may get another in the future.

Been using mine as my main practice axe....but I just gotta replace that bridge pick-up....I'm sh6 addicted.

Glad to hear we've drug in another! :banana :rawk :pickle

Still amazed at the playability for the price. Every time I pick it up, I just wail away with no effort. There's something done right with this one!

Still looking for a set of pickups, pretty much has to be "black covered" but all I'm finding (in the flavors I'm interested in AND at a somewhat reasonable price) are uncovered. Really don't like the uncovered look, although I have 4 guitars like that now, lol.

Well, BKP has some cool custom artwork one-offs (or two-offs lol) uncovered available! Pricey, but could be worser!
Limited Edition BKP's

I've been steadily moving to a somewhat more "modernish metal" (not Djent! :cuss) kinda sound, little by little. Don't care about the haters, the BKP's I've tried maintain clarity at uber gain SO MUCH better than anything else I've tried. Well, the "Instrumentals" I have in my 7 are good in that area, as well. It's an amazing thing, to my ears, anyway.

Also hear lots of love for Lundgren, clarity + gain wise. Maybe I'll look into them.

How many posts can I make in a row before I get a thread ban? Brain still weird from this lingering URI, lmao. Focus is totally unfocused. :bonk

I've had Moderns in two guitars, still have in my other headless. From what I know, I doubt you would like them for long, but they are better than the stock passives.
Since you have seen the cavity......and it's sparce in there, is there room for a neat active install?

Just looked again at the ad, they are saying new ....but they aren't....and 200usd.......maybe I'll wait a couple weeks and offer 140.🤔

You could definitely get a battery in there, can always find batteries like those used in the 24v Mod - if you had to. But I'd bet 95% of guitars have room for it.

I was on a semi "active kick" over the past year or so, but I just can't stand 'em anymore.

Have two left, PRS 594 and the Legator headless. Both are on the list (along with the HILS) for pickup upgrades!
