Have you ever misidentified a song?

Today I had YouTube music on shuffle and I heard a drum intro. I thought “oh, Do It Again by Steely Dan, cool.” Nope, it was Smooth Operator by Sade.

Hey, both are cool tunes but that seems like my discerner is off. 😂

Same, with those 2 tunes. :rofl
I know there are others but I can't remember right now.

Also, I think a lot of them happened when I was much younger and not as familiar with nuances. Like Rocky Mountain Way vs. The Stake by Steve Miller Band, or Billie Jean vs. I Can't Go For That intros.

It's prolly from all the bells.

Oh My God Wow GIF

Both great songs but I know that Extreme album so well I'd never mistake them!
Me too. :beer

I've never mistaken any of these; I have an exceptionally good ear for the minutest details. The thread title just made me think of those 2 songs, because every time I hear the intro to Cupid's Dead, I start to hear in my head, the opening notes to Hard To Handle. But I've never thought it was the other song.

Back in the day when Heart was still on Mushroom Records, Magazine was recalled shortly after its release, but not before the song Heartless was being played on the radio. Once the new label version was released, and started to get airplay, I actually noticed a very slight difference in the vocals. It turned out, I later learned, they had to rerecord those vocals.

You can probably imagine how close to being exactly the same they were- same singer, singing the tracks again, and only shortly after they were originally recorded- and they were very close. (I later compared them.) But I knew the nuances so well, that I could hear something was different, even if I didn't know what it was, yet.

I say that to yes, pat myself on the back, so to speak. :rofl
I honestly wish my fingers were as good as my ear is, naturally, and didn't require so much work! :rawk:rawk:rawk:rawk:rawk
