Gen Z dont give a F**k

season 13 GIF

Based on my Interaction with Young kids I have to agree Music is like Meh to them
if i talk to them about the glorious days where audio and music was so engaging i usually get this reaction

I have been working my way through some History books and one constant is
this sense that the "world is going to hell in an handbasket" vibe and "things aren't
like they used to be."

It's chronic, maybe because change is the only constant. :idk

We humans have forecast the demise of this, that, and the other thing probably ever since
we as people were able to conceptualize, past, present, and future. Shit dies. We die. New
things are born. The world keeps turning.

I think we'll all be alright and music is alive and well in the hearts of those who love it.
Because people will always love it.

The end.

Money drives what is popular throughout history, via physical force, or the threat of it if the marketing doesn't work on the populace.

The people with the most money drive the direction, and the rest of civilization (for the most part) follows along. Sure, there are other factors like prosperity, poverty or the in between, but money is the common denominator that drives the changes. Add in marketing and research and products that are designed with decades of social science/engineering, psychology behind them and you will find the latest trend.

Want to locate some of the most smoking hot women in an area? Find the largest, most well paying company/industry in an area, find out where they socialize - you will find the hotties there. Repeatable world-wide throughout most societies.

I enjoy a lot of Rick's content.

But I am a bit surprised - for a guy of his intelligence - that he's considering his own subjective, limited experience/interpretation as the total measure of this topic. It's a big world, with a lot of views and cultures with completely different perspectives and experiences than his own.

(Although I'm also not surprised, as part of what makes his channel work is that he presents strong opinions as fact, designed to generate discussion and controversy.)

I also did not watch the entire video, just @Stone's time-stamped section, so maybe he addresses this elsewhere in it?

Society has gotten so weird and fractured, it's honestly a bit frightening. People have siloed themselves and removed almost any trace of common experience. Music used to be a common experience when it was on radio/TV. Now it's all self-discovery, which is cool for individuality but remove that shared experience.

My teenager doesn't seem to care about music, although he listens to dreadful modern rap sometimes. He's mostly interested in sports, video games, and playing on his phone.

A better title would’ve been “why gen z doesn’t care about 70s guitar rock” but even that would be dumb because thanks to streaming services and the general open mindedness younger people can get into a lot of older stuff with Louy the gatekeeping and general genre butthurt weirdness, and they don’t even have to be thst weird “born in the wrong generation” kid to do so anymore

At several points he blames the video games. So maybe instead of the viral "Gen Z dont give a F**k" title, he could have used something like "Video Games Killed the Radio Star" as @la szum suggested above, or "Video Games Killed the Guitar Hero".

I'm gonna make a video "GenDumb is F***ing obsessed with nonsense viral titles and silly face thumbnails" showing my open mouth at the thumbnail. But wait... that woud automatically include me in that GenDumb group 😂

Dumb video and completely jnnacurate. Try again mr. Beat-off

I know and work with several gen Z, and while I’m a millennial only 5 years removed from the generation

Nailed it! Well-written and thoughtful, TS! :beer

As the Father of young people I can see his point, but it is also very shallow and limited. Like you said,
taking a single, personal perspective and then concocting some universal conclusions about it. Ugh! Not.
Smart.

That said, it is an habit that most of us have and probably could be more self-aware of. Inflating our
personal views to the point where we think they are universal truths/laws.

I also don't like throwing of entire generations under the bus---be it Boomers or Z'ers. When someone does
that I know they are not seeing/sensing the whole picture. :idk

Great post! Sad post.

No one is "inferior," nor should it be implied that they are, if they are not as obsessed about music
as some of us are. You know what, I think it may actually be healthier to NOT be like Rick Beato, or
me. :beer

But when I compose and play licks in Lydian Dominant it sounds so catchy????!!!

Not my fault not everyone wants to know what underwear Pat Metheny was wearing
when he recorded "Last Train Home." :idk
