Fractal Talk

Are you seeing a meaningful difference between the new fm3 beta amp modelling vs before? Can't check now, but I wonder if there's a real difference in feel.

If yes, I'll likely "have" to redo all my tonex captures of fm3 presets.

Dummy question but why not just use the FM?

Maybe it doesn't fit well in your rig?

It's my backup for some uses, and much more portable to take with me when needed. So I like having some parity between my FM3 presets and the tonex one.

Also, I've made some real amp captures with tonex recently, which keep using tonex for most of the time. It's just easy to have the fractal tones on board.

Additionally, this is an easy way to use my fm 3 tones in DAW without either fm3 or tonex hardware. Just load the tonex plugin and go from there. But fractal themselves don't have such a plugin.

GO GET IT FM9ers

Thought about this for a year or two, but I'm going to downsize from the Axe 3 to the FM9. Don't need the rack format and the floor board will be easier to edit and adjust without a computer (compared to the rack unit that sits on a shelf against the wall). Should still have plenty of power.

Was also kicking around the FM3 or AM4 but both seem like I'm going to hit the wall at some point and be limited.

Still keeping the Fender TMP, but always gotta keep some kind of Fractal gear right? I did sell the Kemper Player and gave my HX Stomp to a friend so down to a much more reasonable number of modelers.

I feel like you might lose money downsizing 😶

If you sell via reverb you'll probably get $1500 out the door. I guess you could try and find a cheap used FM9 but if you go new, I don't see many ways where you don't lose money.

Yeah I'll lose a bit but shouldn't be too bad. I got the Axe 3 + FC12 used and will sell both, then get a used FM9 so should come out a bit ahead.

But it's not really about the money as much as the form factor...Axe 3 is my only piece of rack gear. Having a floor modeler will free up space and I can put it on my side bench for editing (or tuck it away on the floor when not).

Nah, I got about that selling an FM9T. He'll do well with an Axe3.

Idk, if selling on reverb the average III sale price is around $1500 if not lower. That's before reverb takes its cut.

I wasn't aware he was also selling a FC12. Which tbh makes it even more confusing. Add in the 12 and you might come a couple hundred on top for what to me feels like a downgrade.

Just my 2c.

If it wasn't for here; selling my FAS stuff would be dead in the water. I still have an FC12 I need to off. Fire sale bros come at me.

I don't care that it's a downgrade. I don't like the rack format. It doesn't work with my office/desk setup.

I'll probably come out a few hundred on top after all is said and done, but I probably would have traded the Axe 3 + FC-12 for an FM9 Turbo straight up if I found a local swap.

It's honestly not a huge downgrade, unless you're into freaky signal chains with all kinds of ambient shoegaze triple drop tuning worship presets with seven delays.

Yeah I never use dual amps, tone match, or multiple plex blocks or reverb blocks. Basically run a simple chain. I barely ever hit DSP limits with the fm3, so the fm9 should have some extra wiggle room.

I’m also much less interested in the latest and greatest firmware…I’m usually a month or two behind the betas anyways.
