Fractal Talk

Interesting that they're jettisoning user IR space to make room for more DynaCabs. Wouldn't have thought that sort of thing was ever in the cards since it will undoubtedly break the experience for a tiny ammount of people. But I have to wonder how many people use more than a few IRs nowadays? Seems like the trend has shifted in the industry from IR wav files to freely positioning virtual mics.

Especially excited to check out the 5F8 Tweed, Class-A 30W, 59 Bassguy, AC-20, Nuclear-Tone, and all three Princetones.

And to figure out a Magnatone stereo vibrato type effect (stereo phaser is where I had the most luck in Helix land, so I'm gonna start there!)

Fingers crossed it doesn't take too long to get here lol

Thanks again to everyone who has answered my questions over the last few months!

I have always found Princeton’s to be my favorite fenders. As somewhat of a contradiction, my favorite amps to play are always big power sections moving big speakers and cabs.

I highly recommend checking out the ODS100 clean model. I find it to be the beginning and end of my search for most things fender, but it’s somehow better…

YMMV. I can’t remember which tweed model I settled on, it was one I wasn’t that familiar with but it had the tone and feel that was exactly what I was looking for that others didn’t quite deliver. So check out a variety of the tweeds even stuff you don’t really know. Once you get a cab set up, it’s pretty quick and easy to run through the models and turn a few basic knobs to narrow down the models that really do your thing.

FM9 Firmware 11 Beta installed without a hitch as usual
As per usual small improvement but noticiable for my current custom preset I'm using

Funny how the AF III crowd seemed to be more gushing about it and the FM9 crowd is hardly noticing a difference... :)
well it is an improvement that I could hear and as all updates they accumulate to get better and better all the time, thats my observation.

Yeah, I love Princetons in general, so I'm really looking forward to those. They really do something special imo

And thank you, I'll check out the ODS100. I was never that interested in the Dumble thing before, but I got a Tubesteader Lightkeeper a bit ago, and while that's only doing the preamp part of it, I really like it (and its tone stack).

Those are some favorites of mine in fractal-verse. The cleans and EOB are going to be :chef . Check out the Komets too.

I’ve never had or played a dumble, big surprise…

I’m not remotely interested in the tones people usually associate with dumbles.

Forget all that baggage and just approach it as maybe one of the best fender circuits ever dialing in what you like as a fender sound and you’ll probably be well rewarded. I run the master pretty hot on it, like 7-9 I think.

The low end improvements are great for lower tunings. Palm mutes for days. I suspect the AF3 cohort is more hardcore than the FM9 cohort. Beta hasn’t been out for long, either.

I have, for years, said I'd pay the price of an Axe-Fx III, FM9 or FM83 just to get the '59 Bassman model because it's _that friggin' good_.

Now you can have it for $699

The Komets look really cool too! I was actually reading Yek's writeup on the Komet 60 the other day, and there's a part where it talks about swapping between EL34s and 6L6s on the actual amp for different sounds... so it'll cool to be able to try that out in Fractal land too :)

Yeah, just from my time with the tube preamp, and a bit with the Dumble-esque Grammatico in Helix, it feels like Dumbles are like Soldanos where they've had a specific type of sound closely associated with them over time, but they're really just nice, versatile amps. I say this with no real experience with either though haha.

I wish they had dumped the factory IR slots instead and made those available to e.g upload via Axe-Edit or something. But I understand why.

I don't think I've ever filled all the IR slots in any Fractal unit, and if you do...you probably have a problem if you can't find IRs you like with way less.
