FM9 arrived!

Got to play with it with headphones for about an hour, and have to pull myself away for now, but...

yeah, wow, it just immediately sounds good :) The presets are nice of course, first of all, but almost right away I got into making a quick preset to try some different amps. And I actually didn't get past the 5F8 into a G12H IR (I didn't wanna mess with Dynacabs yet since time was short) because it just sounded and felt so nice!

And reverbs are excellent of course! I'll definitely be overdoing them for a bit haha

Also, while I did watch a short vid on the front interface a few days ago, so I didn't go in totally cold, I've gotta say... the interface is actually pretty easy lol. No, not Helix level easy, but not TOO far off either once you get the approach. There are a few weird things, but idk I was able to pretty quickly lay out an input, drive pedal, chorus (setup as a vibrato), spring reverb, cab, and stereo reverb, and setup an envelope follower modifier to control the vibrato depth, and be off. I feel like I'll get pretty fast at it rather quickly, even though I do plan on using FM9-Edit for anything more complicated. Compared to a lot of synths I've used, it was a breeze... which tbf isn't saying much lol, but anyway.

Yeah, very happy so far!!

EDIT: oh, also it was smaller than I was expecting! I mean, I knew the measurements, but it didn't come across as bulky as I was imagining, which is cool!

See you in 6 months when you get an AXE-FX 3 :D

I honestly felt like the 10 user cab slots on the Axe-FX Ultra was a lot. I still do.
I’ll be contrarian. On modern devices its relatively easy to provide storage. There’s no excuse to limit a big ticket over the top kind of processor like the AxeFx III in terms of IR slots. Mine is completely full and I have way more I would not mind loading on there. I’d love to have every IR I have on the device and use it as my librarian rather than a directory on my computer, etc.

If you want to only use 5-10 slots you can do that too. No judgement.

There’s zero point in limiting it on higher end devices where the design/cost trade off is negligible. On a floor processor fine, there are a lot design constraints in that realm especially as you get to really price sensitive targets where everything counts toward the final cost.

But I like modelers for their options that’s their value proposition, so on a flag ship for the premier innovator in the industry that costs in the well over $2K+ range it should absolutely be/feel over the top in terms of capability/options.

Dynacabs have limited the utility of IRs on the Axe but really I don’t get b*tching about something being too capable. If you want a limited device get one of the lower end units.

IMHO.
