Get a 6U and a power amp!
I have a few power amps. A TC BAM200 that can sit on top of this rig or tuck away nicely (it's tucked in my desk rack atm) and a big Yamaha class A/B SS racked by itself.

My idea is to have separate pieces and use them in a modular fashion. I won't always need the power amp, I won't always need the mixer, I won't always need the modeler

Here's my mixer rack (housed in the same 4u rack, before I finished modifying the XR's left rack ear):

What isn't pictured is the power distribution unit on the back

Just got done playing my second gig with my FM9+GM800+VG800 into a Fryette PS2A into an Orange PPC112. Sounded just amazing. I'm not sure why I couldn't ever get along with anything into the return of my DSL40CR, since it's a faaaaaiiiiirrrlly clean power amp, but the Fryette just kills it. Plexi 1970 factory preset for rhythms, SLO100 factory preset for leads, one of the Fenders (can't remember off the top of my head) for cleans, and I was set for anything in our fairly old school setlist. Until the Stadium is released, I think my board is set. And the Stadium is gonna have to be real flipping good to kick the FM9 off the board.

I've never tried Tone Match before but after watching CC's video it's a pretty powerful block! Especially if trying to tone match a cover or something (I know booooo).

I'll be using this alot more

It’s HERE!! Been playing (more like fumbling through checking out factory presets).

I have many questions but will mess with it a bit first.

Couple quick ones for now:

0) Plugged straight into the Matrix and Mesa 2x12. Tried figuring things out on unit first. Didn’t run FM9-Edit yet.

1) Tried bypassing cab block and it sounded like ass. Almost DI.

2) Found the Whole Lotta Love preset and the “EQ as Cab” Scene sounded pretty good. Had a couple PEQ blocks active instead of cab block. Is this an indication of how to run without a cab block?

3) With the Matrix GT1000 should having the IO setting for output as -10dBv or +4dBu?

4) I need a rack case - any recommendations. This amp is 2U. Should I go 3U and have a power conditioner? Open to suggestions. Never had rack gear in my life.

Edit will make this easier..

Essentially make sure you have an output block that corresponds with the output you have going to the matrix.

Ex) if output 2 is going to matrix, make sure your signal path has an Output 2 block at the end

Sorry if my wording confused this. I have it working, getting sound.

Curious with a clean power amp like a Matrix, if you’re meant to still run cab blocks.

It sounded bad with the cab block bypassed. So I’ve been keeping the cab block active. Sounds ok. Maybe a little dark. I don’t see a global presence or resonance “knob” in the settings.

Ah, no, if you are running it into the mesa, the idea is to then turn the cab block off. Although do whatever sounds best!

The amp is relative to power amp modeling, not Cab modeling.

If you were using a tube power then you'd consider turning off power amp modeling.

When using a guitar cab you'll want to either turn off global Cab modeling or remove the Cab block from your preset.

Found what I needed I think. I’ll mess with these settings when I get back home.
