Fractal Talk

So this is not the Flaccid Talk Thread?

My son and I dug in yesterday, he played through a couple of factory presets before I started dialing in the 50W EVH Stealth model. Bright and brash overdrive to saturated chugs, it sounded a lot like I know it to sound. after about an hour or so of just messing around we only had used three factory presets! This thing is great fun.

After my son went back to his studies I flipped on my Helix Floor and started to try to dial up similar tones on the III. AC30 compressed clean then AC30 overdriven with added fuzz and compressor, Marshall rock tone, and Mesa chunki-boi. On Helix I'd use the Essex A30, Brit 2203 and Badonk.

In the Axe I set up four scenes and scene controllers for the Class-A 30w, Plexi 100W High, and the FAS Modern on three different amp channels, leaving one for fun.

Plex Delay for instant wash is really cool. Reverbs are nice and fun, a little metallic ringing in the initial Hall verb I called up. Delays are okay, not reacting like analog delays with the time and feedback knobs. I was bummed when the Graphite Copy reacted nothing like the Carbon Copy. I instantly missed the Helix Delays. I've only had a little time with the Modern VCA comp but I like it.

The tweakability is awesome and although I haven't matched my Helix tones 1:1, after a while I didn't really try too hard anymore because what I was hearing was great. I might dig around into some more amp models to see if i can get that midrange compression of the HX Badonk. FAS Modern has a little of that but it isn't "out front" like the Badonk.

I'm also going to try to match my physical 50W Stealth at some point.

Question about the Speaker tab in the Amp Block:

I'm running the Cab block to Out1 and no cab block to Out3. Does the Amp model's speaker tab interact with the Cab block only or is that also changing the sound that goes to my live cab?

If you are going after Badonk
FAS has a couple of pretty modern sounding original
There is FAS Modern but there is also FAS Modern 2 /3
Brootlz , Skull 💀 Crusher
And FAS Stealth Blue

Are you using midi for the preset and/or scene change synching between them or do they have their own way of facilitating that?
I am. I have MIDI out from the FM9 going to MIDI in on the VP4.

The FM9 is sending MIDI tempo clock to sync tempo on the VP4 with the FM9.

I have a MIDI block in presets that use the VP4 that selects the preset and scene on the VP4 to load along with the preset and any scene changes I make on the FM9.

Don't forget you can use your Floor to be your midi controller.

And SPDIF between each to avoid any conversions.
I might just do that sometime. This MIDI Captain is starting to piss me off. I've been working on programming it and got it all worked out with External Controllers and PC Mapping, but the MC uses a text editor to program their new Super Mode and I've been awake for too long now.

Midi pisses me off in general! Get fc6 when you can or fc12. Fc editor right in fm edit and much easier 😁

is there a way to get IRs off of the fractal?

I did six hundred HX stomp recto cab IR captures with the fractal hardware at one point (cause fractal IR capture is medical grade) but now i want to factory reset my unit so it stops doing this (I do a lot of weird stuff with advanced parameters in betas and end up with landmine presets that blow up if you try to scroll past them)

Open the manage cabs tool in Axe-Edit and paste an empty cab to all the ones you don't want anymore and click save, I believe.

Edit: Or, just highlight the ones you don't want, right click and choose clear.

i meant "get them off" to also use them somewhere else lol not just "delete dis" i spent 2 days doing every single SM57 location/angle combination of HX recto cab when the new line 6 cabs came out
