Does the AM4 use the same amp/drive/fx/cab models as the big boys (Axe3, FM9, etc)? Or are they somehow neutered?
 
So has there been any consensus on whether we think the AM4 represents the tail end of Fractal’s current gen modeling or might be groundwork for what’s next?

L6 shouldn’t get to be the only one out here experiencing the joys of having their new modeling engine flogged to death by a bunch of us ungrateful mutants.

Hard to say. I actually don't care. I'm literally buying it for what it is now, which is a smaller Fractal that'll fit on my pedalboard with my other pedals more easily, and has a goddamn USB-C port :D.

Sure, it'd be cool if they spooned in the next gen. But I won't be heartbroken if it isn't.

I would say there are tons of hints as to next gen w the release of AM4 and now Icons
Fractal is in a really good spot
They can continue to work or new hardware while releasing Icons and other plug ins
They have already said that New Cab lab HD will be on the way
So Icons is a really nice way to introduce new GUI and features

From what Cliff has said next gen
Touchscreen - you can already see it in icons how it will likely look

Dynacabs HD won’t run on any prior units right now and it will be on next gen

Block library on unit
NAM block

So one can take a pretty well educated guess at features
The only question mark is about the hardware design

Scribble strips
Compact like AM4 design or more robust like FM


To answer question I do not think AM4 is next gen but more tail end or bridge

IMO given that it’s shared with the flagship AxeFx III that it would be the tail end.

If history repeats I don’t think Fractals next gen would sound fundamentally different than what we have now - the III didn’t sound much different on first release than the II.
