Fractal Audio Systems AM4 - Amp Modeler

I have another question about AM4 usage. Is there any way to put wet fx before the cab but after the amp, or is it always before or after the whole amp block?
As far as I understand it's always tied to the amp block. There is split mode, where cab sim is always at the end of the chain but only on the left output, the right output is without cab sim so you loose stereo (see manual p.21).

Thanks for confirming. It’s not a big deal, it’s mostly that I’ve come to favor having delay before IR’s lately but can get that fix with other gear.

Recorded my first track with the AM4 yesterday. Just a simple idea. Came together in one full sitting, just a dinner break in between. :grin

No A.I. was abused in the making of this. :p

:somean

Here's what I used:
Yellow strat, Mustang Bass
Melodies/lead —Danelectro Eisenhower Fuzz pedal > Legend 100 model
Brit 800 2203 High — Left and right rhythms
FAS Modern III — center rhythm
USA Bass 400 — bass
Knifonium plugin synth — arp and horn parts
SD3 drums, shaker/perc loops in spots and a few other little chime hits

Post eq and compression in Studio One, also a Rotor effect on one of the rhythms in the chord changes.

That sounds freaking awesome
Tone is great , nice job

In case neither the IR or delay section itself isn't doing any dynamic processing, the order doesn't matter.
True, I’m mixing things up now so thanks for pointing that out.

What had my head spinning was using my spring reverb pedal after an IR block in one of the HX Stomp FX loops. There was some high frequency metallic sound generated from the physical pedal which were less prominent when placing the loop block before IR.

That’s probably because of the IR acting as an EQ as well, rolling off some frequencies.

The reverb and delay blocks of the AM4 have enough EQ controls in them that to the extent they are nonlinear, you can still tweak the eq in the reverb/delay block to get a very similar/same sound as if it were before the IR.

That made me warm and fuzzy. Killer!

On the FAS drives: I’ve always thought that maybe they weren’t as good as in other modelers (QC and Line 6), but today I tried to match the Klone Chiron to my Tumnus (not 1:1 but another good Klon-clone) and right away sounds pretty close. But… going into expert mode and tweaking the mid frequency, bringing him back the bass, slightly increasing high mids and treble (plus raising the high cut slightly) brings me to a near identical one-to-one match!

I never tried doing any expert tweaking on the FM3 on the drive block but I’m slowly realizing that as long as I have a good reference tone FAS is unbeatable for me. And I mean this for near any block (DRV, AMP, FX, etc) thanks to expert controls.

BTW I thought the QC drives were great… as long as you had the exact same drives to compare against. Any other differences could probably not be matched due to the lack of expert controls (so you had to compromise or resort to captures).

Yeah I’m looking forward to digging in! The more I understand about the AM4 the more I think it will match how I work and think. No shade on Helix stuff, still love a lot of it but I really look forward to trying out the ”advanced simplicity” of AM4.
