9 chances out of 10 Cliff knows fully well that any hint will make people jump to "next gen" conclusions -- and he's having fun with that.

Personally, I greatly doubt it's about Gen IV -- OTOH, why else do NAMM (if they even are)...?
Maybe for some unexpected other big thing like some kind of amp?

Other chances...
  • He indeed can't contain himself not much longer to reveal all the things he has been holding back and how it will be a great jump forward -- possibly making the competition look like... Game Boys...? :LOL:
  • I could see him releasing a FAS Drive Pedal Annihilator to extinguish all others! (an old dream of his)
    If he really imagines that could happen, he went off the deep end...! :p
  • Introduction of FAStomp box series, exhibiting the first few...?

I would also be surprised if they release the Axe FX IV this close to the AM4, but I'd be here for it. Maybe the AM4 would get the updated modeling too and it would be a bridge device.

My guess is something more like the HX One, but that's just a guess.
That would probably be another winner, especially if it has the pitch block. They could probably do some straight dedicated pedals too. Pitch, reverb, delay as stomps would make a lot of people happy.

Imo the FAS drives are the weakest link of their digital emulations. Please don't put that product idea out in the universe 😂
I'd say his objective would be to give you endless options to create your own models.
He's not gonna check 300 pedals to give you 300 emulations -- there are enough to start out with -- which may be best of both worlds as so many absolutely want clones of real pedals...
If it fails it would be because "most people" have become so d*** and lazy and want everything on a silver platter... (I'm reaching the age I'll include myself here :geek:)

Oh god now we are mentioning more than 1 capture at once.

From what I remember the new flagship model usually is announced when the current one is running low on space for firmware updates.

Nah, it's been a variety of reasons:
  • Axe-Fx Standard/Ultra -> Axe-Fx 2: Running out of firmware space
  • Axe-Fx 2 -> Axe-Fx 3: Axe-Fx 2 DSP chips were getting discontinued if I remember correctly
I think with Axe-Fx 3 -> Axe-Fx 4 it will be more about the competition. People see mobile editors, touchscreens on even cheap units, and now 3 of their biggest competitors (Line6, Neural DSP and Fender) have touchscreen units on the market, even if the Axe-Fx 3 is still more capable than any of them. They need to respond to that with upgraded products.
