Fast, Tight, Dry Amps, What You Got?

Marks are the opposite of "unforgiving" IMO. They're so compressed and tight and fluid they hide all sorts of mistakes.

Thanks! I had a Deliverance 60 II and it was a little loose and a tad sludgy to me. Absolutely
Massive, though.

You thinking more along the lines of a Pitbull.... or a Sig X?

I had a pittbull 50cl and sig X. The pittbull was probably the longest tenured amp I’ve held on to out or a few dozen. Sig X can be fast/tight/dry but can also be dialed in to not be that way. Pittbull is an amazing menace. A mark is “easy to play” in comparison imo. Picking hand is everything. Incredibly dynamic

The pittbull actually just popped up in my memories, got it 13 years ago today. RIP, I need another one. There’s been one listed locally for a bit….. tempting but I’m trying to slow my roll a bit lol. Just did my taxes, Mayve if it’s still around when I get my refund lolol

Can never go wrong with collecting more marks either though

Don‘t let the Morse discourage you from choosing another ENGL. As I said before - If you want the famous Mesa sound, have the Mesa Mark sound in mind, but then buy a Mesa Filmore, disappointment is guaranteed. But that doesn't mean that Mesa amps in general aren't the right choice, it just means that you've chosen the wrong model. I am still pretty sure that you would not regret buying a Savage Mk II or an Artist Edition.

As far as ENGL goes... I'd suggest the Savage only. The others are not super tight without a boost.
Marshall JMP/800 loaded with 6550s
Fryette Pittbull UL is super tight.
Splawn amps are very tight, especially the Nitro

Cut out most of the bass in front of the amp and it will sound pretty tight and dry.
QFE.
Something like a VFE Standout or Broughton High Pass Filter or Empress EQ with a tunable high pass would tighten up any amp.
There's some pedals that I find to make amps feel "faster", I have a Kasleder Mean Bone that does it, or @Ed DeGenaro wrote about the Rodenberg Lukather pedal having a similar thing going.

Absolutely, that pedal is Fryetter/Hiwatter maker for me

Pitbull amps are the ones to get if you want tight, dry, and immediate. The CLX, Ultra Lead, and Classic 100 would all fit that bill. If you want a preamp solution the GP3, GP/DI, and the Synergy UL module are all voiced that way as well. The Deliverance was intentionally designed to be have a softer / more vintage feel. The Sig:X is supposed to be the swiss army amp of the Fryette lineup and can be dialed in to be tight and dry or to have a more forgiving sag.
