"Everyone using 'x' tool sounds the same". Another knowledge nugget dropped by Fricker

Right out of the gates (you don't really need to watch the whole video), he insinuates that everyone using Fractal (and presumably any other modeler) sounds the same, because it's the same modeler, not dissimilar amps, cabs, mics, etc.

That's an argument I've seen come up a few times, and presumably it's because they seem to think if 20 guitarists are using the same product, all 20 of them sound the same.

To me, it's a ridiculous notion though, and should be, for anyone who's spent 20 minutes with the Fractal stuff (or any modeler). A Fractal has 250+ models. You can set them in multitudes of ways, as you go through the tabs. THEN you add in an IR. Now sure, there are some IR's that are very popular, so a lot of people use them. However, there's no rule saying you have to. Additionally, there's now DynaCabs, which means you can move the mic yourself.

So how's that sounding like everyone else?

I think the bigger risk is probably stuff like Kemper/Tonex/NAM/etc., because certain captures sometimes become very popular, and thus samesy. But even then, what goes into the capture, as well as what's done after, truly matters for sound shaping.

TL;DR WTF Glenn.

These people are YouTubers who rely on views for their income. I’m in the “lucky” position where I can go to work every day and do the same thing and get paid every day for doing the same thing.

YouTubers cannot regurgitate the same video every day and expect an income so have to literally make up anything they think might get some revenue.

TL;DR Just make shit up that you think might make you some $$$$$

I’ll play. I always thought that humbuckers were same makers more so than anything else.

I mean when I think back of the guys using single could their tones are way more individualistic than the guys with buckers.

So yeah same makers IMO exist.
But it ain’t the modeller x into IR y.

And while I’m at it before I’d get worked up, the stacking drum samples from DfH is a huge same maker.

Fucking hell... I genuinely didn't think there would be a strawman in the first 10 seconds of a video. I've gotta be honest, that's kind of impressive.

A dude being able to suck his own dick is equally impressive, but that doesn’t mean people want to watch it.

He does this a lot thou. Before Fricker began embracing modelers, he once put up a video where he tone-matched an Axe-FX II with a 5150, a Dual Recto and a Framus Cobra, and got it sounding indistinguishable from the real thing. Then he bitched about how digital is soo expensive (???) and a liability since sound guys apparently can't mix DI signals properly (???):

I rarely see it mentioned, but here's the exact moment when i completely gave up on this tool: it was one of Fricker's Q&A videos where some guy, super nice and very politely, asked for tips dealing with sound issues playing at his church. After reading the 30 seconds-long question, the reply was a single "have you tried praying harder?", complete with a shit-eating grin.

Whatever value that channel provided is long, looong gone IMHO.

Imagine if you were a bass player having to deal with this idiot wearing this dumb fucking shirt.
