Eminence getting into the low sensitivity speaker game

I think I heard around $150, which is not bad at all. I'm excited to try one myself. If I'm bringing my 1x12 to a gig it's probably because volume is an issue (otherwise I'd bring a 2x12 or 4x12) and will have to run the volume on my 50 watt head at around 1.5 to not get guff from the sound guy, which is not ideal. If I can turn up to say 4 or 5 with the Muse then the amp won't be choked down and ideally, I can get a more full tone.

That’s a fair point.

Random thought while reading this…. Is this genuinely just a speaker company trying to drum up new products rather than a solution people were ever asking for? Secondary to that what could a speaker company do to innovate or get new products flying off the shelves?

I genuinely don’t know. Speakers and cabs are expensive to build & ship globally. They take up physical space and output a ton of volume which most people seem to be moving against, it’s a tough industry for them.

I can’t think of anything a speaker company can do but this is the first cab I saw in recent years that I mentally bookmarked and thought…. If I ever have excess funds these will be a purchase to kit out a studio space for visuals, crazy cool. Apart from these the zilla custom cabs of the world are cool you can design your own colours and finish etc, but still $$$

I think they are trying to cater specifically to the crowd who would like to use their tube amps, but soundmen keep asking them to turn down. Electric guitar is a bit annoying instrument when so much of how it sounds is tied to how loud it is - even on modern amp designs. Any amp needs some volume to sound its best.

I think speaker manufacturers could do a lot more to try to showcase what their speakers are best for. "This is a great pairing for darker voiced amps due to its bright tonality" etc.

Like I thought the Eminence Maverick was a great speaker, but I had the wrong amp for it. I replaced the V30 in a Bogner Goldfinger combo with the Maverick and the Bogner is voiced darker as is until you really turn up the treble knob high. Something with head cutting treble would probably sound great with it.

That's exactly what it's for and I think it will be a great solution, so long as you like the sound of the speaker. I've been highly anticipating this and listening to clips of the L1270C that it's supposedly based on and if it sounds like that I think it will be a winner for me. I think it sounds great here:

Sure you can have more control with an attenuator or other external devices (I use a passive volume boox in the loop sometimes) but that's more crap to lug to a gig or precious space on the pedalboard. If I can have the right amount of attenuation built in to the cab I'm bringing, which I think -8db will be a good choice, then it's perfect solution. I'm all about sticking to tube amps on stage but I'm not looking to have to lug and setup more stuff to make it work.

Just build the attenuator into the amp or cab. The John H design is cheaper than a new speaker and won't add much weight to an amp. Just a few switch to give you different levels of attenuation goes a long way in terms of flexibility for different venues/situations, and you can use whatever speakers you want, including light weight ones!

But what if you are running a head + closed back cab, like I am? No place to stick an attenuator box in that scenario.
