Dumble Reboot, TOP meltdown imminent

I don’t know, that doesn’t fit with interviews I’ve read of some very famous guitarists describing their first experience with them in jaw dropping life changing terms.

Also, I believe it isn’t just “a” circuit, but rather each one was specifically custom built to the playing style of the guitarist it was built for.

That’s the part I never understood about the market for them. What made the real original ones special to their original owners is that the amp was custom designed just for them and the way they play. So it doesn’t seem like they would be nearly as special for anyone else
Toan is in the wallet.

IDK, I think its just buying into the mystique when you throw a bagload of cash at some nutter and he presents you something he's been secretly slaving away on. You're going to be looking for what makes it unique and special at that point. Ultimately, if it gives the happy feels, then great. I'm not convinced any dumble is more or less magic then anything else, but maybe I just don't care for the sound of them. Audiophile community is rife with gear that does literally nothing but people desperately try and look for differences that they can hear or feel (but cant actually measure).

I obviously haven't played a real one, but I also haven't heard the sound of a single one that makes me bothered about it. They sound fine (sometimes), but they're just another amp circuit.

I'd have a hard time admitting that an amp that I spent $10K on is not all that.

You can see this behavior for any hard to get, super pricy amp on the market.
Money and Perceived Value are just that.

Sound is not expensive.....cults are.

I will never justify an amp purchase over 1000usd. Period.

i figured it was a big company that bought the name and were gonna build generic clones at first, but if the two dudes have the schematics of every dumble built and in theory you could have a hand built "dumble" with exact parts and specs, i can understand that being appealing to people

Here’s the thing: none of us will ever know. Because none of us will ever be in the position where we have him personally building one for us.

I take the word of those who were once in that position over some YouTube clips of someone else playing their amp :idk

Also you’ve obviously never heard the story of Magic Alex and The Beatles ;)

There’s enough other amps that sound good to me that I’m not going to worry about those that don’t sound great. Same goes for real gear vs models of them, you know roughly where the similarities are and where they might differ. For anyone who’s desperate for a specific kind of dumble sound, there’s options available. and there are plenty of techs out there who’ll tinker caps and resistors to fine tune an amp until you’re happy.

Ha I love the stories about Magic Alex, although I think George Martin’s opinion of him was pretty spot on. John seemed most gullible, just as this other Jon does here (brace yourself before watching):

That feels like a video where he's being punked but it gets cut off before the reveal.

The thing that made Dumble amps into the legendary Dumble amps was HAD’s process, ears, and skills to get what his client wanted from an amp. I don’t see how a new “Dumble” is any different than the list of established clone and “inspired by” amp builders out there?

I mean I hope they’re good and people like them, would be a shame for someone to ruin the name, but without HAD taking on an apprentice or 3 about 20 years ago and teaching them everything that he knew and did I don’t see how the world will ever have anything closer to a real Dumble than what has been around for years already.

I bet some people are gonna line up to pay absurd amounts for the nameplate anyway though…

Bodes well that they can't figure out how to obtain an SSL cert for their website, something that is literally free and provided by even bargain-basement shared hosts.

I have zero interest in purchasing a Dumble myself, and honestly I don’t get the appeal of buying one second hand when it’s something that was so personalized for someone else. Unless you’re a collector.

It could never be the same experience as those who actually had one made for them by him.

I’m not a big Dumble fan, but I also believe the experiences of those who did actually have one made by him for them. I don’t have any reason not to. I’m also a believer that listening to any recording or video of an amp is a completely different experience from actually playing an amp yourself.

Which brings me back to none of us will ever really know.

Reenactment guitarists will have an amp that looks like a dumble, sounds as much like a dumble as anything else they could buy and has the right logo on it though.

Then they can use it at 0.3-0.5 on the volume with their Murphy Lab super aged most accurate ever les paul, master built strat and giant pedalboard full of vintage pedals to butcher the few riffs they actually know.

They'll also undoubtedly be out of tune. The pictures in their gear page posts will also be taken on a camera with a lens that's costs more than my prs.

I'm not jealous though....

I'm just bitter :grin
